I think he is gonna be a star. A few years from now he is probably go to England, Spain or Italy and make the big cash. I have seen him interviewed and wow, is he a class act. He can handle himself on camera better than most guys in every other sport.
Be patient. He will get better with every game and will be an impact player in the next year or so. Once he is, he will help inspire more kids to play and help the game in the States. You guys did pretty well in the last World Cup and with him on your team...you will just as well if not better. You lucky to have him. Canada sucks in soccer.

He's the real deal. I saw a few minutes of him playing with DC United on TV a couple weeks ago. He has great ball skills and some serious moves.
He did start this last weekends game. They lost, I think. And, he scored a goal somewhere along the line. Thanks for listening. |

is this the 14 year old? His age is all I know about him aside from the fact that he plays football for DC or some eastern US team.

Oy vey, those idiots over at PTI should not be allowed to comment on soccer. Ever. Adu is not physically mature enough to be a starter. Have you seen how small he is compared to all the other players??? He gets manhandled by every big dude out there and doesn't have the room to maneuver that he used to playing at the junior level. He's not physically mature enough to start yet, no doubt he'll be a star, it's just that he's not ready yet.

You don't have to be big to play striker (although it helps!), look at Michael Owen, he's something like 5 foot 4. You need to have good pace and ball control, and be able to finish... all of which Adu can do.
They wouldn't have signed him otherwise. Also, it's upto the coach to decide who plays when, because at the end of the day it's his job on the line. From seeing a couple of DC United games on ESPN, I rate Adu better than both of their current starting strikers.

I can actually give us some additional insight into this kid as I know one of Freddy's teammates on DC United.... I'll get some "unoffiial information from him to let everyone know. He's for real though and his pitch mates know it. More to come soon....

It definitely helps to be taller but all balls being served up front aren't in the air. That's only part of finishing on the offensive end. A forward striker can be just as successful up front with speed of foot and great ball control. Put both traits together and you've got an all-star impact type target player...

I saw him play on the US U-17 team vs the Canadian U-17 team. Man, that kid flies. Moves fast enough that his defenders just kind of stood there, frozen. He can dribble, touching the ball with every foot that comes forward, as he sprints. It's pretty amazing to watch. It brings him milliseconds closer to pulling the deke compared to a striker who perhaps touches the ball once a second at sprint.

Poor kid's got no chance of living up to the hype. He's being touted (sold to the highest bidder) as Pele and Ronaldo rolled into one. |
