Gotta feel bad for C.C. Sabathia

C.C Sabathia has been pitching Awesome!
but his team sucks so bad that they dont ever get any hits for him.
He has 3 of his wins that he left with a lead and didn t get the wins.

its the same problem that happened to the dodgers last year... but i think the Indians are a lot worse than that team was

bond007 05-01-2004 07:43 PM

or how 'bout Al Leiter? in Leiter's 5 starts so far this season, he's got a record of 1-1, an ERA of 1.37, and the Mets have scored a grand total of 4 runs!

Yup, funny you mention Leiter i have both him and c.c. on on eof my fantasy teams

It s insane

The Indians hitting isn't that bad. The problem is the bullpen. In a lot of games this year they have blown decent leads.

As a team only 5 teams (4th in AL) are hitting better than they are. 12th (6th in the AL) in runs scored. 8th (3rd in AL) for 2B. 1st overall in on base%. Hr's, RBI's, SB and Slugging they are in the middle of the pack, and 3B's the bottom. So to say they're hitting sucks is a little on the uninformed side. Look at the stats, with runners in scoring position and 2 out, or any split and the Indians are up there and taking advantage of their offense.

Lawton is finally showing what he can do, Belliard is doing better than anyone expected at second, Vizquel is showing great offense. They only have 3 hitters under .250 and that's McDonald (a late inning defense sub who only starts in emergencies, Laker the back-up back -up Catcher and he has only 8 games and 26 AB, and Coco Crisp who is being relegated to platooning if he's lucky.

Now Pitching the ERA is 4.5 and 12th overall (4th best in the AL) through the first 6 innings. 4th in AL in fewest hits allowed, BB, K, and Whip a bit above average in the first 6. They have great underrated SP, in not just CC but Jason Davis, Cliff Lee, Westbrook and even Jason Stanford (before he went on the DL) are all doing very well and a good young rotation.

From the 7th on they are 3rd last and total worst in the AL ERA by almost a whole run 6.12 (the Tigers have 5.18). Last in the majors in WHIP and hits allowed. Only 3 relievers have an ERA UNDER 8. And only 2 have an ERA under 6.5. And NOT 1 has an ERA under 3.5 (maybe Bettencourt after tonight's game) Bettencourt and Tadano and Tadano has only pitched 2.1 innings so his ERA will probably go up. They have 3 saves and out of 13 losses the bullpen accounts for 8 of them.

Hopefully tonight's game gave some confidence to the 'pen. The Indians definately have talent in offense and SP and if the 'pen somes alive then they could very easily compete in the AL Central. If the pen continues to blow games then the SP will push too hard the offense will try too hard and by July the team will be dead tired and worthless.

lawton is the only player worth having from the indians.

I think omar is overated, every year he's on my team. his avg. is great but the other numbers don't impress.

pan6467 05-04-2004 10:54 AM

Vizquel's numbers are not bad for a SS, in any other era except this one. Ozzie Smith I don't think hit .250+ but a few times in his stellar career. But A-Rod, Jeter and Garciaparra really changed the whole SS stereotype of being a solid fielder, fast on the bases but no power and little average.

No, granted this season the Tribe doesn't have a lineup of Thome's, Belle's, Alomar's and Lofton's but as a unit the team is very strong offensively, and by next year Blake, Escobar, Martinez, Gerut could all be on the verge of superstardom. The SP I think we'll see a couple superstars from the rotation in the very near future, of course CC, but Stanford, Lee, Davis and Westbrook are not chumps and then Tallet and some others coming up or on the DL. It could be very interesting in Cleveland, very very soon.

And then you have to add the Jake, cause when that place is sold out and the fans are into the game, there is magic in that place and all it'll take to wake the Jake is a nice win streak and run at the division. Both very reachable this year.

It just shows how overrated wins are when evaluating a pitcher's performance. Look at Brandon Webb's stats and compare them to Dontrelle Willis. The only thing Willis had on him was more wins and a flashy leg kick. Webb was ROY last year but Willis won it in June.
