NBA Playoffs (Round 1)
first post, this is the best board I've seen.
With the first round of the NBA Playoffs almost over, the the pack of 50 win teams has been thinned out & the Spurs are the only team in the west that were able to pull off a sweep. Are the T'wolves or Lakers Still Favorites? |

I'm not a fan of this team, but the Spurs are the team to beat. They are quiet, not very exciting, sometimes downright boring....but I don't see the Lakers getting past them in the 2nd round and I don't trust the Wolves or the Kings/Mavs to be any more dependable.

I agree with JoeyB, expect to see a Spurs/Wolves Ticket in the Western Finals. As a Minnesota Timberpups fan I'm going to say that the Wolves could beat them, it'd be a really good series, but the T' Wolves got the home court advantage. I've really enjoyed watching the Western conference series, but the East just sucks, boy does it hurt watching, hopefully 2nd round will have a decent series.

My thoughts...
1) The East sucks. 2) The Spurs are going to beat the Lakers. 3) Don Nelson is gone after this year. 4) The East REALLY sucks. 5) Pistons-Spurs final becomes the lowest rated in history. 6) I think the Terrapins could beat 10 of the teams in the East.

I think who ever wins the Spurs/Lakers series will be the Western Conference champs, and NBA champions in a 6 game series vs. Indiana. That being said, the Spurs are rightly favored against the Lakers, which kills me because my hatred of the Spurs is second only to my hatred of the Kings. But, if the Lakers can steal Game 1 or Game 2 in San Antonio, they will win the series.

The Lakers will not lose to the Spurs. It just isn't gonna happen.
Gonna be a great series, but LA just has the better players. Kobe, Shaq, Malone. The Spurs don't have 3 guys who are that good. And Bowen is gonna get eaten alive by Kobe. The Pacers or Nets will win the East. I just don't think the Pistons can do it. |

Is anyone else sick and tired of Barkely & Co. pre, post, and halftime commentators on TNT? They trashed both Sac and Dallas, and I know Dallas isn't the best team around, but this is not sports commentary, it's more like, "Man, wish I were still playing, cuz I could beat their sorry ass, they're soft, Man!"
I swear I heard them say "fuck" on the air. Anyone with me on this? |

As far as the Spurs/Lakers Matchup goes
1. No, nobody can hold shaq, but the spurs are the best team in the NBA at putting shaq on the bench for half the game. 2. shaq can't hold tim 3. Yes kobe will score 30, 40, 50 a game, but when Bowen is gaurding him it takes 35 or 40 shots to do it. So, Lakers will Lose to the Spurs in 5 |

After game 5 vs Rockets, I'm confident that the Lakers are capable of beating the Spurs. Malone will guard Duncan and if you don't think the Mailman can handle Miss Piggy, you're mistaken.

After Game 5, I would agree with you, but as a Laker fan--I've seen the Spurs dominance one too many times. The Spurs always seem to have someone else step up....Steve Kerr, Malik Rose....last year it was Ginobili. If Fisher or Payton or George distance themselves from the pack and contribute more than they have recently....and Malone continues---they have a chance. A lot of "if's". I want the Lakers to win, but I wouldn't bet the couch on it.

Sir Charles is right. Dallas and Sacto are soft, and he woulda owned them in his prime. He can talk all the shit he wants because he was easily a top 5 power forward of all time. Waaay better than Webber, or anyone else on those teams. |

If anyone could predict what the Lakers could do, then they need to go play the lottery. The only thing they have been consistent of this year is being inconsistent, and the playoffs for them has been no exception! (granted not a big laker fan, but think that is a fair assesment) I feel the Pacers have a chance to beat either the Spurs or Lakers, depending on if the Lakers decide to show up 4 nights against the Spurs. Before you start flaming I realize if the Pacers do win the Title there will some excuse like The West is so Incredible the they wore eachother out and tha Pacers played High School teams all year, or the moons of Jupiter where out of alignment, or Kobe has not been able to sodomize women and is feeling depressed. But hey hopefully at the least the Pacers can earn a little respect this year as the grow as a team. ok ok flame on!

Kobe might put up 30 a game for the series but it will take him 30 shots. No one on the Lakers can guard Duncan. Parker/Payton will be interesting. Ginobli is going to light them up just like last year. I do think the Spurs are going to miss Steve Kerr in this series though. Shaq will have to have four big games to win the series. I don't think he can do it. |

It makes me sad that everyone here overlooks the pistons still, especially the way they trounced the pacers the last game they played. Jersey will fall in 5 or 6, and it will be a close series between detroit and indy. But to count out the pistons completely at this point... foolish.

I know how you feel. I am a huge 49ers fan, and look at the franchise right now compared to the 80's and 90's. Atleast your team (Lakers) was able to win three straight in a row. Spurs right now look like they are head and shoulders above everyone in the league.
