Michael Schumacher
For those of you who watch Formula 1 racing, what are your thoughts on him. He has won all 4 races this year and 11 of the last 21. Last year, I had read things that they were going to do to his car and his car alone to make it more competive such as add weight to it. This season, he is leading the points standings with 40 of 40 points, and in second is his Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello with 24 points.
I dont think anything should be done, and i will admit that i am a Schmuacher fan, but its just not him winning. Ferrari is the New York Yankees of F1 racing. They have the money to build 2 of the best open wheeled F1 cars there is. This is shown by his teammate being in second. I was just wondering what other F1 fans thought. |

I like Schuhmacher also, but I also like a exciting season. At the moment it looks like an easy chamionchip for Michael.
All his opponents are either struggeling with their cars (McLaren - poor Kimi .. ) or with their own failures (Ralf). Montoya only stands out because of his whining. I miss the fighing Schuhmacher vs. Hakkinen

I don't think the Ferrari cars are that much better than all the rest. Barichello is tied for 2nd place with Button, and he is a very skilled driver himself. Outside of Michaels 40 points theres a lot of drivers with 24-10 points or so. The season will be competitive for 2nd and down, just 1st is Michael's. No one can come close to Michaels skills. And I hate him for it! But adding weight to his car is just simply retarded, why be good when they will just hold you back and prevent you from winning?

rbox, I really understand where you are coming from.
I just wish someone, anyone could give Schumacher a real battle througout the entire season, but hes just to darn good. Both me and Txstar hate seeing him win, and love seeing him make a mistake, a rare event at that. However, we have to admit, if we had a chance for any F1 driver to take us on a flying lap, no matter who we love, we would both choose him. I dont like his past dirty streak, but i do admire him an aweful lot. Edit. I actually enjoy seeing his emotions on the podium.... Sighhh Last edited by rocinante2003; 04-26-2004 at 02:08 PM.. |

Well I am a relatively new F1 fan. Just started watching 3 years ago, and have attended the last two US races since I luckily live only 2 hours away. And in my experience, he hasn't dominated all that much. Last year he could have lost the championship to Kimi, if he didn't get any points the last race. A big if, but still an If. This year he has just been on fire and dominating on pure skill. And I am not just jumping on the Button bandwagon, I really liked him when he drove for Renault, so I have to say I am really pleased to see him doing so well after they dropped him for Alonso.

I am glad you got into F1 rbox, I actually lived in Silverstone and managed to get tickets a few times, which in itself is very hard. We are hoping to go to the USGP.
I actually met Jenson while he was competing in Formula Ford during the late 90's.... I am also pleased that he was dropped by Renault, but at the time i was a little annoyed. Last edited by rocinante2003; 04-26-2004 at 07:57 PM.. |

You know, it's quite an interesting situation IMO... do I like Schumacher?
No, because he's going (in all likelyhood) to walk away with his 7th championship(!!), and he's making for a bad show. I want to see fights for the lead, passes, ducking in and out looking for a way around the leader as they fight tooth and nail right up to a photo finish....but that never happens, because schumi is always out in front, blowing everybody into the weeds. I also don't like his (or his brother's) general race strategies. It seems to be the case, that, if someone gets along side either of them, they simply run them off the road, or weave across the road like some old lady trying to find a lane.... it's not cool, and he's been driving like that for as long as I can remember. (I've been watching F1 since the mid-90's.) . . . . now..... . . . Do appreciate Schumacher's raw speed? Abso 'freaking' loutely! Baring his in-traffic foupaus(sp), his ability to simply crank out fast lap after fast lap, seemingly at will is like seeing pure art in motion. I think it was interesting what one of the announcers said at last weekends San Marino race. It was something like "And here we see Rubens, running in 6th place, which is where the Ferrari's probably would be if it weren't for Michael." hmmm...kind of makes you wonder a little... But perhaps they don't get the same car, I dunno, but I see no reason why Ferrari would purposely give Rubens crap to drive. There is no reason for it, so it must be something else...maybe Michael really is THAT good. Now...having said all that...GO JENSON GO!!!!!!

MS is an incredible racer and we are witnessing a legend, however I sure don't want to see him walk away with the championship. I'm really disappointed at McLaren and Williams. Both teams failed in their attempt to raise their level of competitiveness. For the past few years the BMW was generally thought of as the most powerful engine, I'm not sure that's the case any longer. McLaren's new chassis sucks and the MB engines are blowing up every race. Big problems at that team. I'll bet Montoya is having second thoughts about heading there next year. Alonzo is still there nipping at their heels and may be the sleeper of the bunch. So yes, Schumacher is running away with the championship but its as much the fault of Williams and McLaren as it is Ferrari domination.

I hope Michael Schumacher wins EVERY RACE this season. If that doesn't kill off F1, I dont know what will. ;p
I'm more interested in the A1 Racing circuit kicking off soon (hopefully).

I love how some people would love to see F1 go under, but if it ever happened these would be the same people complaining about watching NASCAR. What is this A1 racing circut, are you talking about the A1 Ring in Austria?

Its the A1 Grand Prix series to be based in Dubai. All chassis will be identical Lolas http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view...d=26&nid=84427
Its to run during the 'off season' and not compete directly w/ F1. http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns12681.html |

s meddling is trying to stop this, but its too late. A whole bunch of FIA rules needs to be re-written for this to happen. What I like about A1, for example, is the focus it will put on "national" teams participating. And the focus on driver ability.

Yep nation bashing everywhere thanks for the links Craven Morehead, I always laugh when I type your login name. I know the feeling vaultboy NASCAR is boring as hell, round and round and round. I wouldn't say F1 is boring yet but it is definitely heading there. As for this A1 Racing, what type of tracks are they running, oval or road? Jesus I hope they run road courses, yeah they're probably running road courses, I hope.

4 races into the season and championship may already be sewn up by Michael. Geez. I hope not. I really thought Montoya would give him a run for his money this year. But Schumi is just that damn good and so is his ride.
