Do You Dump Maddux?
3 games
2 losses 15.2 innings - walked 9 - 20 hits - 16 runs - 15 earned - 5 dingers 9 K's ERA 8.62 he needs only 11 wins for 300 - clemens got his last year and is on fire - maddux is only 36... he's one of my favorite mound men and you have clement, wood and zambrano with prior in the wings - do you trade him or keep him? |

He's possibly the best pitcher of his generation not named Clemens. You don't drop him after a couple bad starts. He's a guy who needs PERFECT control. He'll be fine once he get's going.

We are all nuts as sports fans for this even coming up. See what SportsCenter has done to us? Hedonism in sports. . . instant satisfaction.

Don't have the stats in front of me, but I understand he had a similar start last season. Right now, his wins aren't as needed as the ones he will provide in July, Aug. and Sept. That's when I expect his vetern status to pay off. Having him on the bench to mentor the Cubs young staff will be invaluable.

keep him. he isn't the same pitcher he was with the braves but he will still end up getting you 10-12 wins. His real importance is being on the bench where wood, zambrano, clement, and prior will be able to pick his brain. maddux is one of the smartest pitchers to ever play the game and his knowledge is invaluable.

Actully I'd like to see Sergio Mitre get more starts.
Cubbies coulden't ask for a better first 15 games without Prior. Mitre has come up huge, Clement and Zambrano have just been outstanding. Zambrano's control is as good as it's ever been, and he's lost a little speed, but much, much better control. That's why when everyone was jumping ship on him, I stuck it out. This guy when his control becomes what a Wood or Prior is (if it does, of course) is going to be as good as either of them. Maddux will be just fine. Cubbies will be just fine. Goo Cubs! He pitched very good yesterday.
7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO By the end of the year, he will have around 13-15 wins with a solid ERA.

NEVER! You'd have to be crazy this early to do that. He's gonna be fine trust me. At thew end of the year he will have very Maddux-like numbers. Maybe even better since he's playing for the Cubs now and they will score runs for him. Stick with him my son and you shall be rewarded.
