Detroit v. Calgary
I'm going to have to say Detroit in 5, possibly 6 on this one. It's true that Calgary will prove a much bigger threat than Nashville did, but face it. They played a long, hard series against Vancouver, and walked out licking their wounds. Meanwhile, Detroit has had the past week to kick up their feet, and has left the first round with fewer injuries to their lineup than Calgary has. A fresh Calgary team might be able to win against the Red Wings, but not this tired, injured team. San Jose v. Colorado I thought I had Colorado figured out in the first round, but they surprised me and walked away with the win, and in fine style I might add. I think as long as their best players end up being their best players, then Colorado will take it in 6. Tampa Bay v. Montreal This is going to end up being a case of a fast team versus a fast team, and in the end, it could very well all come down to goaltending. Theordore is playing red hot right now, and Khabibulin(sic?) isn't too bad either. However, applying my bias and wishful thinking, I'm going to have to say the Habs will take it in 7. Philadelphia v. Toronto All throughout the Toronto-Ottawa series, all I heard about was this voodoo curse that Toronto had over Ottawa. Well, it seems to have worked again, but the Leafs seem to keep forgetting that they have a voodoo curse cast on them as well. Toronto has never gone beyond the next round after beating Ottawa, and I think that's what's going to happen again. They're old, they're broken, and they can't rely on Belfour as much in this series, as Philly is more of a 'crash the net' type of team than Ottawa was. Because of these factors, I'm going to have to go with the Flyers in 5.

Tampa in 5
SJ in 6 Detroit in 5 Leafs in 7 As much as I hate to see Detroit win, I think they are gonna win this one without too much trouble. Also, everyone would love to see the Habs win but Tampa is a very good team and my pick to win it all.

I agree that the injuries against Calgary are going to be a big factor in this series.
If Calgary had a healthy lineup, this series would be a lot tougher to predict..Reinprecht, McAmmond, Simon, Gauthier, Lydman.. all huge pieces of the team. Good thing the last three might see some time though.. |

Kiprusoff would have to put on a performance of historical proportion for the Flames to win more than one game. Detroit has too many weapons and got a timely defensive wake-up call against Nashville. Iginla won't be enough.
Detroit 5 Colorado 7 (with lot's of OT's) Tampa Bay 6 Toronto 6

I'm going to say lightining in 5, detroit in 5, colorando in 6 and philly in 7.
Tampa right now has the best goaltending in the league next to eddie the eagle. Detroit showed that even a good goalie doesn't work against their team and they tore apart vokun in the last two games of the series. Colorado seems to be getting peter forsberg back on track, and this will bring the team back into a goal scoring team. As for the game for philly against tornoto, i think esche will prove to be a better goalie in the series then eddie and this is what will lead philly to the conference finals. |

Calgary in 6
Sharks in 7 Flyers in 5 Habs in 6 Calgary is my pick over Detroit only because.... thats my second home. Calgary has some talent and they have Grit (reminescent of Sutter). If the series goes past game 5 its going to be the Flames going onto the next round. Sharks because they surprised me in the first round.... they dominated St.Louis with their speed, Evgeni Nabokov is going to be the deciding factor in the series, Abiescher isn't the replacement Colorado hoped him to be. Flyers have the talent and the goltending is so-so, and the have a good physical presence. I'm going to pick the Habs.... I cheer for them more than any other team because of their history in the Playoffs. I like Theodore and I think that if he has a good series it'll be the Habs going onto the next round. and yes I know I can't spell to save my life |

Wings in 5
AVS in 6 Flyers in 7 HABS in 6 I would love to see the Flames/AVS final in the West but I think the Wings are just too damn good and hard to pick against. Hopefully the same AVS show up as the last series and not the ones who could not close out the regular season with 10 straight titles... The HABS/Lightning series will probably go the other way but I got to root for the underdog in this series... GO AVS !!!!!

Wings in 6. It's been pointed out that Calgary's hurting and Detroit's well rested. I desperately want the Flames to prove me wrong though.
San Jose in 7. Mostly because I don't like the Avs. Montreal in 6. They've got the skill and speed to keep up with Tampa, and will continue to play with the same drive that got them past Boston. Toronto in 5. As long as Toronto doesn't let Belfour face 35 shots a night again they should have no problems. |

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (6) Calgary Flames (2) San Jose Sharks vs. (4) Colorado Avalanche EAST (1) Tampa Bay Lightning vs. (7) Montreal Canadiens (3) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (4) Toronto Maple Leafs would love to see calgary win, but the fight they put up will not be good enough. detroit in 7 san jose has been quiet all year with no real stars, and the av's are full of stars. the stars will pull through for the av's colorado in 6 tampa has a lot of offense but montreal has a ton of heart. montreal in 7 going to be an awsome series to watch, can go either way, but i think despite his back eddie will be to strong. toronto in 6

I know most of the fans at the Can have taken Abby into open arms. He did not just achieved my expectations, he shattered them. Abby has been stellar all year, with a few bad games like any goalie. He was supposed to be the weak link, instead he was the one holding things together and stealing wins. GO ABBY!! and GO AVS !!!

One I have been watching Calgary lose it for the last few years and I only pick them because I want them to go all the way. Detroit is a good team but Calgary has earned my respect. I picked Detroit to take all four games over Nashville and they didn't. This made their stock go down and with Calgary winning their series it made their stock go up. I think with all the superstars Detroit has they should've done better.

As for worse pickups, it is a tossup between Kariya & Selanne, they both have been disappointing. As for Abby, he SUCKED tonight in game 1 and got yanked so maybe I cursed him, or maybe you did. Not worried though, he will be back strong next game... GO AVS !!!
