Heavyweight boxing

Ruiz as WBA champ

A Byrd - Golota rematch for the IBF belt

Lamon Brewster is WBO champ (I've never even heard of the guy, but he looks at least 30 lbs overweight)

Corrie Sanders as WBC champ.

Look at these four guys, Ruiz is a very very ordinary fighter, who was completely owned by Roy Jones, Byrd has an ackward style but he cant punch he is a natural cruiserweight and he is not exactly a great fighter, Ive never even heard of this Brewster guy, and Sanders is a nothing more than a heavy handed journeyman.

In my opinion not one of these guys is fit to hold a world title, but who else is there? Wladimir looks finished, his brother has all the same basic flaws and the same mechanical amateur style, Mesi isnt near world class, the only person in the division who seems to be able to create any excitement is a washed up, out of shape, emotionally unstable Mike Tyson.

I honestly cannot think the heavyweight division has EVER been in as bad a state as it is now... I even heard rumours George Foreman was considering a comeback...

Agreed. However, Corrie Sanders is VERY heavy handed, which is at least exciting to watch. I remember when he knocked Rahman through the ropes and onto the announcing table, taking all of the audio equiqpment with him to the floor. Hilarious.

As for all the others..losers.

I heard Frans Botha and Shannon Briggs are giving K-1 fighting a go. lol.

It's a sad, sad, sad thing.

i was very upset with the results of this weekends bouts.

as much as i hated lennox lewis, he was the only good thing going in the heavy division, and with him retiring it is in a state of shambles.

just too bad the up and coming kids of a few years ago never panned out....mike grant, lou savarese are a few that come to mind.

not to hijack the thread but what young heavyweights are out there that were supposed to be winning titles now and have yet to do anything?

None of note coming through , but, Remember in the early 80`s when Holmes retired1st time i mean, Things were in a similar state titles changed hands on a regular basis page witherspoon weaver etc they were called alphabet boys because of this.
I know it looks poor but you never know someone may come along to grab the attention back then even though i didnt like him he caused massive interest that was Tyson of course. Cant see that happening again but someone may break through?

Regarding Sanders his fight at the weekend may be interesting still not paying for it though. Dont think it shouldnt be ppv.

There haven't been many but Dominick Guinn and Samuel Peter come to mind. Guinn just lost a decision to a no-namer so he's become even more disappointing. Peter is still undefeated with a record of cans but his power combined with unrefined technique is nothing to write home about. Now's a good time to show the smaller guys some respect (Hopkins v. De La Hoya anyone?) instead of watching twelve rounds of Ruiz' bear hugging.

By the way, it seems Tyson will actually fight in a K-1 promotion this summer in Vegas or New York. All things indicate that it will be a boxing rules fight, not kickboxing or MMA rules. Say what you want about his age, skills, heart, etc., but he usually makes for an exciting bout.

I think Tyson just has such an aura of menace and violence that he carries with him that he will bring that to fights for a few years, even if his skills are fading... if you remember his fights against Seldon and Bruno, they both lost because they were basically just intimidated by him (or else they just took dives)

I wasnt about when Holmes left, but in all honesty, Tim Witherspoon is not Chris Byrd... I dont follow boxing as closely as I used to, but I am not sure who there is coming through... Audley Harrison is talking about winning a world title, and THAT is truly laughable.

He isnt a heavyweight, although he is a great boxer... he could probably beat Byrd or Ruiz though

Well, that is kind of evidence of how few quality fighters there are in the division. I am not disputing that Toney is quality, but he is a natural super middleweight
