Re: Sheffield out 2-to-3 months
Worst case is 3 months. He could miss just a few days. It's a great topic for a "what if" discussion, but it's far too early to tell.
If all else fails, they'll trade for Bonds.

The Orioles will trade them Marty Cordova for Navarro, their catching prospect

Okay, medical minds----Is this a good idea to play with this kind of injury? I know Shef was successful last year despite the tear---and Jeter actually played through the same thing in the playoffs.
Long-term (which I know is tough for the Yankees), would surgery be better???

Serves him right for leaving us for just about the worst team that he could pick. I understand that it's all about money - that's why he left in the first place. My main theory is that when he wanted to renegotiate his contract mid-season, and the Braves said no, he felt dejected and never fully got over that. When NY came in and offerred him Steinbrenner dollars, he took them. Basically, he pulled a Glavine. Hope he sucks while he's there, though I don't see that happening this time.
And I think that it's debatable as to whether or not surgery would benefit him more or not. His health would stand to prosper more from it, but his career wouldn't. Shef's getting old, and he needs to keep playing to stay in stride. Who knows what could happen if he goes under the knife now . . . |

You know you would have taken the cash, just like Sheff and all the rest. The thing that gets to me when people complain about the Yanks spending too much money is Steinbrenner is not even close to being the richest owner in baseball, he just chooses to put his money back into the product. Because of that, he wins!
