Wow, pretty big soccer scandal!

Nine Leicester players arrested

The players were arrested after complaints from three women
Spanish police have confirmed that nine Leicester City players have been arrested after three women made allegations of sexual assault.
The Foxes were training in the Spanish resort of La Manga to prepare for a final push at Premiership survival.

One of the players has been released on bail but the others remain in custody.

The Civil Governor's office in Murcia confirmed the players were initially arrested in connection with a charge of "sexual aggression".

German tourists

Four of the players who were quizzed by Spanish police have so far been named.

Defender Matt Elliott was arrested in connection with trespassing and leaving a crime scene without offering assistance.

Fellow defender Frank Sinclair was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and trespassing.

Squad goalkeeper Danny Coyne is accused of trespass and leaving a crime scene without offering assistance.

German midfielder Steffan Freund was released after being questioned over leaving a crime scene without offering assistance.

A statement by the Governor's office said: "The nine players were arrested after three German women complained to police at Alicante airport, as they were about to fly home to Germany."

The club is co-operating fully with the authorities in their investigations

Leicester City statement

It is believed the women claim their hotel room at the La Manga Club in Los Bolones was broken into and that they were then assaulted.

The women had been intending to return to Germany but were persuaded by police to remain in the country to be interviewed, police said.

'Various injuries'

The alleged victims were found to have suffered injuries to various parts of their body when examined by doctors at Alicante general hospital and police doctors.

They separately identified by photograph the footballers alleged to have been involved.

The rest of the Leicester squad have flown home but it is understood that chief executive Tim Davies has flown out to Spain to join manager Micky Adams, who has remained in the country.

Spanish authorities said four players were charged with sexual assault, while four more were charged with trespassing and not reporting the incident to the police.

In a statement, the club said: "A number of players have been interviewed by Spanish police as a result of alleged incidents which took place during a club training camp in Spain.

"The club is co-operating fully with the authorities in their investigations but, as these investigations are still ongoing, is not in a position to make any further comment at this stage."

Leicester City's next match is away against Birmingham City on 13 March.

Why the hell did they do that ? To make the manager's job of staying in the Prem that much harder ?

This is starting to look pretty bad for those involved.

Spartak 03-05-2004 02:11 PM

They even nabbed some genuine starters like Nalis and Scowcroft. This is looking really bad for Micky Adams.

Frank Sinclar, Keith Gillespie, Paul Dickov and one other look to be the ones in trouble....

The strange thing is, they are all older guys, married and settled down... but this cas eis looking very bad, their are English and Spanish witnesses, German victims, I cant see this being a "honey trap"...

it makes Stan the Man setting off the fire extinguisher in the hitel bar in 2001 look pretty tame.... the whole thing is sad.

Micky Adams has just anounced that he will stay at the club despite all that is going on.

I should think so too. If Premiership footballers are behaving so disgracefully, then they don't deserve to play football in this country, in any league whatsoever. Other teams from all over Europe take their players to La Manga and they don't disgrace their countries this way. It's put another cloud over English Football.
