Bobby Knight

Apparently even a trip to the salad bar isn't safe any longer.

It's likely that Knight will catch Dean Smith on the all-time wins list, but I now doubt that he'll do it in Lubbock. I'm sure that if he wants to keep coaching, he'll find someone to give him a spot on the bench.

Do you think he'll catch Dean Smith?

Do you think he'll do it with Texas Tech??

Yes and yes.

This was nothing. The chancellor said something Knight took offense with, and they got into an argument. The witnesses there said it was just an exchange of words, and the President on the university told the chancellor to fuck off and let it go.

Seems like a non-issue to me.

Yeah, really sad they let him get away with stuff that wouldn't even get reported if it was any other coach

You don't think that a public argument between a Division I coach and a chancellor at that same University would get reported? I don't care if it's Kelvin Sampson, Roy Williams or Bill Self---that kind of public display is going to get noticed.

And when it's someone who has already had his fair share of public outbursts, OF COURSE it will be reported.

It's not going to lead every sports show in the country.

I REALLY hate slow news days, because this shit is what gets reported.

let me just point this out to you knight haters

when he left iu they were ranked 18 in the nation and that was a off year

texas tech was unranked

in three years lets see iu is unranked

texas tech is now ranked 18 granted not a off year but still

he is a great coach and cares about his players

tech fires him over this and they are nuts

corse the year stays this way at iu we may be looking for a new coach at the end of the season

i know no way we get him back but a man can dream cant he

I wouldn't be surpised if they didn't fire him after the year is out. I think they deemed it too costly to do it during the season.

Because Myles Brand is an asshole. He wanted to make a name gfor himself, so he fired Bobby Kinight, and did it in a way that may have breeched Knight's contract. He got lucky that the coach there now is doing alright, because if not he'd be under major pressure from the alumni.

Do you remember when John Chaney and John Calipari went at each other at a press conference a few years ago and Chaney threatened to "kill" Calipari????

A public fight from supposedly grown, mature professionals will always get coverage.

If Knight would just walk away, he could avoid some of this. I don't believe he starts most of these things, but for some reason, he feels the need to continue them.

Get your salad, keep your mouth shut and walk away. You won't be the lead story if you just eat your croutons.

Sure they fire a winning coach if he embarasses the person in charge. Lubbock is a very conservative community. They are not going to look on this lightly. Barry Switzer was fired by an interim-President after he had just posted several years in a row of 1 to 2 loss seasons. Did the interim President have cause? Sure he did.

i dont know....maybe the iterim prez knew something else about barry switzer <-- cheap joke.

anyway, i dont think knight will stay up in lubbock for more than 5 years. he'll loose his cool again and do something worse (prolly to a player) and will get fired.

Especially when the university president is on Knight's side in the matter.

They are so conservative that you can't buy alcohol at grocery stores inside the city limits. However, I did hear that he got a standing O at the last game, so if the fans like him, I doubt he gets fired.

I certainly never suggested that he would get fired because of this incident.

I believe that this will not be the LAST incident. He is revered right now (just as he was at Indiana)....but after a few more immature bullying incidents, whether it be with his players, students or faculty---he will wear out his welcome (just as he did at Indiana).

It's the same Bobby Knight, he's just wearing a different colored sweater.

I have found that conservatives are drawn to him, something about hard work, going to class, and taking care of business. It tends to be liberals that tend to dislike him (media, professors). Reading the articles I could find on it, each reporter would write about 2 paragraphs on the issue at hand then 6 about stuff that happened 10-25 years ago, and many times look like they Ctrl+C - CtrlV'd about half the articles.

I ditto what Joey B said, he should have just walked away. I have been to Lubbock once, it is a pretty nice place, it is wierd though, you can buy beer in every restruaunt, but you have to go outside the county to buy a sixer.

A lot of the ESPN guys like Bob Knight, but I agree with what ttf just said about the articles that are written about him... if it's stuff in the past leave it in the past, obviously Texas Tech didn't hold it against him and this is one of the first problems they've had with him... he has done a damn good job with that team.
