Nets fire Byron Scott

Looks like Jason Kidd got his wish.

Bookman 01-26-2004 11:13 AM

Hopefully larry can make Richard Jefferson assume the eye of the Tiger....Byron was not!

The_Dude 01-26-2004 12:18 PM

whoa..........who the hell would want to take over a team that made it to the finals for 2 years in a row?

maximusveritas 01-26-2004 12:35 PM

He made it to the Finals 2 years in a row, his team is currently 1st place in its division, and he gets canned. Ouch.

Bookman 01-26-2004 12:40 PM

I. Thomas has bought the Win at all costs additude to the Metro NYC area. There was no fire and wisdom coming from Byron. He may have had a bit of competitive spirit...but that is the most!

EbolaVirus 01-26-2004 05:52 PM

It was bound to happen. It was either Scott or Kidd and the Nets cannot afford to lose Kidd.

present_future 01-26-2004 09:11 PM

Just another example of a whiny star player getting what he wants.

Zeld2.0 01-26-2004 09:54 PM

Whats confusing is that supposedly Kidd came out and defended Scott when other teammates wouldn't.... /boggle

Exactly, I mean what the hell ? If its not broken why fix it ?

sixate 01-27-2004 03:59 AM

I lost all respect for the Nets organization, and Jason Kidd.
I really fucking hate when these asshole superstars try to run the team. It's complete bullshit. I hope the Nets never win another game.

Halx 01-27-2004 04:58 AM

It was well-known that Eddie Jordan was the REAL coach behind the 2-time Eastern Conf Champions. When he left the Nets to coach for Washington, it all went down hill. Byron Scott was left by himself to realize his poor skill... and now he is out of there!

I feel bad for Jordan. If he would have waited 6 months he could have been bumped up to head coach of the Nets, instead of being stuck with the Wiz.

There are no morals in professional sports. People do not go to see Byron or most of the team..they go to see the star. Some teams win and some Stars win. If an organization can pack the house they are happy. If they can pack the house and win..they are even more happy. If the can pack the house, win and perpetuate the TEAM moral as you claim to miss in this instance..they would be thrilled.

Bottom line...besides any play where Kidd catches a rebound or outlet pass, darts up court and looks at his wife and son in the front row while rubbing his shoulder and throwing a behind the neck alley-oop-slam dunk pass to either Martin, Jefferson or Kittles..the NETS are BORING. So I deduct that to optimize fan pleasure..they need someone to make the other parts of the machine work.

Jephree 01-27-2004 11:13 AM

I thought Byron did a good job there. Well, this was his first attempt. It can only get better for him. Hopefully.

cactus_bangers 01-28-2004 11:34 AM

now maybe he can go to the magic and help out there....

dragon2fire 01-28-2004 11:38 PM

Your right and I don't think he should have been fired but being first in the division isn't saying much considering they are barely breathing over .500.

Bigt6909 02-04-2004 06:06 PM

Byron Scott is gone... Jason Kidd did his work

thephuse 02-04-2004 09:01 PM

Yep.. and the Nets have won 5 straight... I think Byron wasnt as good as he got credit for. A lot of the players liked Eddie Jordan, the assisstant coach, better until he was hired by Washington, and the Nets missed the opportunity... although Frank's doin a FINE job :D

Byron was all attitude and full of himself, while he didnt do much work... players said that he rarely stayed after hours, while assistant coaches like Eddie Jordan and Lawrence Frank worked late w/ the players...

Cant argue w/ numbers... well.. not in this case at least :D

NoseyJoe 02-04-2004 10:03 PM

Byron Scott is not at fault here. How can you expect to get the full potential of your team when its star player, Kidd, is a whiny punk who didn't want to play for him?!1

jasonresno 02-05-2004 05:20 AM

It looks like it worked though, ever since he left the Nets are 6-0 with impressive victories.

Bigt6909 02-05-2004 01:22 PM

Well look at the new coach now... he's gotten the full potential out of the players... if anything there is still more potential there... Granted I don't like NJ or Jason Kidd... but if the team respects their coach then they will play better... obviously they didn't respect Byron Scott

jasonresno 02-05-2004 02:27 PM

Obviously. And now with Lawerence Frank..they really are doing great.

JERKY2010 02-06-2004 03:41 AM

BYRON TO COACH THE LAKE SHOW IN 2005!!!

AS SOON AS COACH JACKSON EXITS WITH TWO RINGED HANDS, COACH SCOTT WILL RETURN TRIUMPHANTLY TO HIS HOMETOWN WITH GREAT LEADERSHIP AND ENOUGH CHARM TO KEEP KOBE IN L.A. HERE COMES THE MIGHTY LAKE SHOW!!!!!!!!

Bigt6909 02-06-2004 08:11 AM

I dont think Byron Scott could handle the Lake Show... they have too much drama for him... just look at what happened when one player didn't like him... The lakers have too many big name players for a coach like b.scott to come in... too many egos to control... but the thought of him going back is a good dream to have...

I suppose you are a die hard LA fan eh? What makes you base this assumption?
