Only people who don't think it's a sport, are the people that have never fly fished, or have any clue how to fish. =/

Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Nice Picture.

Hell yes it's a sport

The_Dude 12-17-2003 11:36 AM

even without the pics, i think it'd be a sport. i take a very liberal approach to the word sport though.

it takes skill to fish doesnt it? doesnt it take strength to throw the thing in the water? obviously, i dont konw much about fishing.

Liquor Dealer 12-17-2003 11:42 AM

If you're talkin' about the thing in the picture it might be a bit fishy but I don't think I'd throw it in the water.

absorbentishe 12-17-2003 11:45 AM

I think the jury is still out on sport or not, but I know how hard it is to land one like in the pictures! Keepers.

wwcd101 12-17-2003 11:50 AM

Fishing is not a sport, except for the fish.

Hey, I'm not kidding. Think about it. People do go sport fishing.

Thanks for listening.

rider6061 12-17-2003 12:21 PM

For some a sport, for many around the world a requirement to survive!

Define 'sport'

My definition: When your opponent's action directly influences your action. Example: Baseball - the pitcher's pitch influences your swing; Football - your opponents play influences your play;

Fishing - no

The_Dude 12-17-2003 09:43 PM

that's a pretty nice definition there. nascar = sport by that too. :D

silent_jay 12-18-2003 05:54 PM

thespian86 12-23-2003 09:08 AM

Well i don't think that fishing is a sport... more like a pass time, like masterbation.

Wait, doesn't the type of fish or location determine the bait, or lure, or whatever?

Strange Famous 12-28-2003 07:44 AM

Only if you kill the fish with your bare hands, you know, get in the water and fistfight a tuna or something. That's be a cool sport.

Last week on the Dan PAtrick radio show they were talking about some video where guys fish with thier bare hands. They hold the bait in thier hand or something and then the bass swallow the guys fist and they pull them into the boat. Now is that sport or some drunken amusement?

It is called noodling - there is no bait involved - you reach into holes and under overhangs and grab them with your bare hands - usually done for catfish and can be very dangerous!

cowlick 12-30-2003 10:57 AM

I saw that noodling documentary a year or so ago on TV. It was really interesting. The people were definately half crazy.

Smoky 12-31-2003 06:51 AM

"If you can't get your nose broke in it, dammit, it ain't a sport!"

--Tim Wilson on Golf.

I think it's appropriate here as well.

*likes fishing*

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
now THIS sounds like a hoot. You gotta admit it, this mode of fishing takes a bit more commitment than standing there on the bank or in a boat with a rod in your hand, all dry....

lions20 12-31-2003 11:31 AM

After seeing some of those pics I might have to start fishing again.

There would have to be some liquor involved to get me to try that.

I feel fishing is a sport. It's me against them and they tend to do more "winning" than I do catching. I use single barbless hooks and always release the fish.

That's my motto for most sports... ;)

timothy 02-10-2004 05:51 PM

hah i never considered it a sport... but now im gonna start playing it ;)

bobby 02-10-2004 08:30 PM

what the hell did I start...??? xoxoxoo

MasterOfDisaste 02-11-2004 04:18 AM

definatly a sport.. if u catch a big one it can become really exhausting

ChrisJericho 02-11-2004 02:28 PM

Fishing takes a lot of skill and patience, however it is not a sport because it does not require more than one person.

Is golf not a sport, then?
