Wow, that taste of the post-season really lit the fire under the Red Sox this off season! This is a fantastic signing for them, and makes it tough not to argue they may have the best overall pitching staff in baseball now.

This really doesn't bode well for my Blue Jays though, because the Red Sox and Yankees have really escalated their pissing contest this year, and the Orioles seems ready to throw money at some high profile free agents like Guerrero. I like what the Jays have done this off season too, but it's going to be tough enough just to finish third in the division next season.

That's all fine and dandy, but all I want for Christmas is A-Rod under my tree.

I think A-Rod stays in Texas. The Rangers want Boston to pay for everything but the kitchen sink and even that is negotiable.

Well, considering the last rumor I heard was a three-way deal with Phillt that had Nomar and Trot Nixon going to Philly, Jimmy Rollins and Manny going to Texas, and A-Rod and Abreu going to Boston, I think the Sohx would be just fine staying put at this point. They got another ace in Schilling, solid closer in Foulke, why tinker with an already potent offense? A-Rod for Manny straight up is a no-brainer, but having to give away more is not wise.

Speaking as an avid Yankee fan... I really hope that the Red Sox DO get A-Rod. As much as i respect A-Rod and his abilities.. he is still the most overpaid person in the world.

Also... If you actually think about it... Nomar can make almost any play A-Rod can make at SS and A-Rod's 3-5 at bats a game cant be better than Manny and Nomar's 6-10 at bats a game. Manny and Nomar combined will provide more chances for HR, RBI, and makes more threat so pitchers cant pitch around just one guy.

besides.. who's gonna play left field? (even tho.. its not as if Manny plays neways :D)

I do have to say... Schilling hurt bad... and losing Andy made it hurt even more... It'll be a good season next year... w00h00

Yes and Ordonez + A-rod have MUCH more stacked #'s than Manny and Nomar have ever...

Yes, but it does not appear either deal will get done. The Red Sox have tried to change ARod's contract and the union rejected it. The deal may still happen, but it got a lot less likely.

I hate the sox, but it will be a huge mistake to get rid of nomar. He is the blood life of the sox. He should move to 3, or A-Rod should move to third, and keep nomar, one of the best hitters in baseball. It would be ashame if he was traded too.

well.. if this deal DOESNT get done now... Red Sox are past the point of damage control.. they are going to HAVE to move Manny and Nomar any way possible.. so this trade better work out for them

Any how, if the Sox get "stuck" with Nomar and Manny for the season, I don't see it being as big of a deal as Gammons and Stark are making it to be. I think Manny and Nomar know that if they want to win, they need to be Boston and not Texas or Chicago. I must say, though, I like the concept of Ordonez and A-rod coming to beantown; two guys who have never really been on a contender and would probably thrive in the situation. Manny's been on the Cleveland teams that made the World Series and, of course, last year's Sox team who should have been in the Series. I think Manny is a spoiled and arrogant shit who should be playing for the Devil Rays to give him a taste of reality.

With everything that has happened in the last month, I think next year is shaping up to be the final run for the Sox barring any major moves. I seriously doubt Nomar and Pedro will stick around after next season. With that said, the Sox would free up nearly $25M between the two of them gone. Hmmmmm..... what could the Sox get for $25M? Hmmmmmmm....

in my opinion A-Rod signed with the devil - i say that due to the fact he went for the $$$ and not the win - should he remain with the Rangers he'll never get a ring and he now knows that he sold his chances - the devil BTW is none other than Selig and his little "wanna be commish" Orza...

I've been to Yankee Stadium a few times (I HATE the Yanks) and sat in the bleachers once. I lost a bet and had to take a friend to the game, so I got bleacher seats. Took the cheap way out ;)

But I had such a blast! The fans up there are nuts. Absolutly nuts. I tried to keep quiet on my Yankee hatred though, I didn't want to get killed.

another thing a lot of folks don't realize is that with the size of A-Rod's contract he stands to lose $14M in Massachusetts income tax whereas Texas doesn't have one
