Good picks except for it would be impossible for the playoff seedings to break down that way.
Top 3 seeds in each conference go to the division leaders regardless of record. Detroit and St Louis are both in the Central Division. Philadelphia and New Jersey are both in the Atlantic. St Louis would have to drop to 4th in the West bumping Vancouver up to 2nd but since Colorado is in the same division they'd drop to 5th and Los Angeles takes 3rd. New Jersey and Atlanta swap places. |

Atlanta fan here. Do you all seriously think that the Thrashers can win their division? Sure, they're leading it now but they have 4-5 more games played than Tampa Bay, I believe. It would be close but I sure hope they do. I'm being a bit more realistic and hoping to at least make the playoffs, even as a low 6 thru 8 seed.

Ironchef82... Up until recently I thought that there would be little chance of Atlanta maintaining the level of play they've had through the first third of the season. Now I'm starting to think that maybe they have a shot. They've cooled off a little but Nurminen is still playing great in goal, Kovalchuk and McEachern are solid and Heatly should be back (barring any legal obsticals) by the end of February. Biggest question is their defense. If Atlanta can play even .500 hockey until then they have a legitamite shot in the Southeast.
Tampa Bay has been too inconsistant. Stillman has carried the offense in the early going but he's a fluke and it's starting to show and their goaltending is a mess. They'll keep things interesting for Atlanta but I have to give the edge to the Thrashers. |

I also think the Kings will win the relatively weak Pacific Division. If only they had everyone healthy for once. With Palffy, Allison, Stumpel, and Straka all healthy they would be really good.

You watch, I am saying it here, Dallas Stars WILL come back and win a weak division. That will give them the automatic 3rd seed. If you look at Dallas, they have had many injuries hurting them. Also, Dallas usually has more shots on goal than the other team, but end up loosing. Eventually some of these shots on goal, WILL go in, and the Stars will start winning. And I honestly believe the Stars have always been a "playoff" team. So if they make it in at 3rd seed, watch out. OK, its December 12, 2003, so lets see if I am correct, come April / May.
