Partying with the coach
Iowa State head basketball coach Larry Eustachy is coming under fire after pictures of him at a fraternity party were published. Not only was he drinking, he was also kissing several female students...plus, it was after an away game!!
What should Eustachy's punishment be? He has admitted that drinking affected his judgment, so counseling could be in order and I think Iowa State has the right to suspend him without pay. He is the highest paid government employee in Iowa with his million dollar a year salary. I think going to a party with students shows very bad judgment and is an embarrassment to the University. What do you think?? |

He has a clause in his contract that states that he is to represent himself at all times in a manner befitting, so obviously he triggered that clause...
...so something needs to happen. He will probably get the community service/fine thing so prevalent in college basketball today. I think an interesting factor is when this happen in the Bible Belt. Lets face it, no matter what our own convictions are, these people can be pretty upset by any impropity... Personally, I think a public apology should suffice. It would be enough to get it through his head, and discourage it from happening again. I hesitate to say he did nothing wrong, cause while I don't think kickin back is a big deal, he IS the highest paid Iowa state employee, and its in his contract. At some point you lose the right or have greater responsibility than to frolick with coeds |

gov135,
Regardless of his punishment, don't you think he's labeled for the rest of his coaching career? He's a punchline now. That embarrassment could be punishment enough. I still think Iowa State needs to do something, but the name Eustachy will not represent the "old guy" at a party.

I'm not sure about the "label" thing. It may be true, but does the label actually hurt you? I mean, Bobby Knight has no trouble recruiting and Jim Harrick will have a job two seasons from now. And those guys have had labels for their whole careers.
I am surprised how much we are hearing about this. The papers in Iowa seem to be holding on to this story pretty firmly. I mean, the guy publicly apoligized and said he would accept his punishment. What else do these rags want? |

I know that one of those rags wants him to resign. I agree that he used poor judgment, but I think it would be a shame if one act (if it is indeed one poor act) cancels out everything else he's done. He seems to run a clean program, otherwise. |

Pleh. ISU's head football coach was convicted of beating his wife, and 8 years later he's still on the job there. Now Eustachy gets drunk and parties and might get fired. Last I checked, drinking was legal and wife-beating was illegal. Gooo media hype!

Now Eustachy is gone, and an assistant coach a kiddie porn freak. What a fucked up way to end the season. I think Eustachy got a raw deal, yea he was stupid but whatever. However with this new assistant coach issue, the whole story is going to wind up screwing him forever.
