Where will Spurrier go?
 

Well, it definitely looks like Spurrier will be leaving the NFL.

Where will he go? Will he go back to college football or will he retire?

My theory is that he take the reigns at Arizona. Any takers?

A year and a half is all? That seems way too short to change a football team's path drastically.

Arizona? As in Cardinals? Not a chance. Wildcats? Probably not.

Wait, why is he leaving? Doesn't he have a better record so far than Jimmy Johnson did when he first entered the NFL?

Historically it has taken college coaches about 3 or 4 years to become successful in the NFL.

Why not the wildcats? It's open and has great golf courses...

He is being paid at least 5 times more than Jimmy was also.

He is a not a pro coach.

I see him staying south somewhere or out west. Fulmer is not going anywhere.

Arizona would be a nice out....but I see him taking a year off and seeing what is available than.

No one has mentioned the possibility of him going back to Florida. Is this possible? Ron Zook, even though he has a decent record, and a 2-0 record against UGA (ARRRGGHH!!.. sorry), is not a very popular person down there. I don't remember what exactly transpired when he left Florida to try the NFL, it's not like he burned bridges before he left now is it?

It will all depend on how it went down in private between AD Jeremy Foley and Spurrier when Spurrier left. Foley didn't seem happy with the way it was handled. I also can't seem them firing Zook after the recent stretch of games.

I feel bad for the guy. Danny boy has been through four coaches and five QBs? His "hands-on" management of the team has made them the least effective weapon in the NFL, not to mention the laughing stock of the DC area.

Who would want that job now?

What is the talk about Spurrier coming to Tennessee? I haven't heard anything about the coaching staff getting reshuffled around here.

He's originally from Tenn., isn't he? That's where that talk is coming from. I've also heard talk from both UT and OU alumni about him coming there when/if Mack Brown is fired or Stoops leaves to go try the NFL. There has also been speculation about him taking over after the retirement of Bowden at FSU or Paterno at PSU, maybe after a year in the broadcast booth. Of those, I think UT and Austin would be the best fit for him and his ego. He'd not fit in in Oklahoma, I think, and doubt that he would go back to Florida or FSU, even if asked. There's too much risk and no glory if he does what is expected of him.
Who knows, maybe Snyder will wise up, and give him more time and take a hands-off approach. At least Snyder makes Jerry Jones not look quite so bad anymore.

I don't think Stoops will be leaving anytime soon - he's probably making more money now than anyone in the NFL and appears to be very happy in Norman. There will probably be a raid on his coaching staff before the year ends - So far OU has been able to keep them at home with $$$$$!

Don't know if any of you had a chance to watch the HBO thing on the Cowboys last year but they looked at Jones up close and really personal - I changed my opinion about him in several ways - I think he cares very deeply for the Cowboys and their image - He has perhaps been guilty of trying to micro-manage or perhaps micro-coach might fit better, but I would imagine the deal with the Tuna eliminated the possibility of that becoming a problem this year. Perhaps he should have kept Switzer - things definitely went downhill after his departure.

I'm on campus here at UTK and I haven't heard anything but a couple rumors which Fulmer has called "laughable." They interviewed Fulmer when the rumors were going around in the local newspaper and campus news as well.

Spurrier is from the Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol (Tricities*) area here east of Knoxville. I don't think many people around here care much for Spurrier, especially how much he ran his mouth about Tenn. in the past. I won't say its not at all possible though, just unlikely imo.

He's not leaving people.

I live in the freaking VA/MD/DC area, and the constant talk of Spurrier stuff is starting to piss me off.

The national media can take one up the ass and stop bothering the Redskins.

OK, first off, this is something that a Cowboys fan does not normally do. I am going to defend Steve Spurrier. He's had one year and a half to work with this team, that's not enough to get all the players that he needs to get, nor to turn it around. I am also speaking from experience here, Jimmy Johnson took quite a while to get the Cowboys back on track when he came from the college ranks. So alls I gots to say to the Skins Fans is this, be patient, your time will come, but you will still only be at least 14-2 as long as the Cowboys are in the division.

Spurrier willl be the 'Skins coach for at least one more season.

Snyder wont fire him

When talking about Dan Snyder, I have found one rule: say the most stupid or idiotic or heartless or confusing decision he could make, then be absolutly shocked when he goes twice as far.

Spurrier is as good as gone from DC. He'll be back at Florida next fall.

AL9045 should know better if he lives around here. I agree with everyone else on this thread who has said Snyder is a big bastard and will send Spurrier on his way soon. It's just how he works.
Is it fair? Probably not. But if Spurrier didn't know about Snyder coming in, or was so arrogant as to think he could just come into the pros and take over, well he deserves it.

Spurrier is staying, end of story.

Why would you want him to stay? It appears to me he is a college coach who is trying to adapt a pro team to a college style instead of adapting his coaching methods to a pro style.

Snyder spends the big bucks on players and coaches and expects immediate results. He's not about waiting for a couple years for things to develop. Patience is definately not one of his strong points.

I belive Spurrier better be lining up a new job if he intends to keep coaching. End of this season he's gonna get a big seeya.
