no question that oklahoma will be the champs. i really dont think anyone will put up that much of a fight either. usc might be alright but i would rather see them play michigan in the rose bowl, as long as neither loses. if this happens it will be hopefully my next school (USC) verses my favorite football team.

In case you didn't know, being #8 doesn't guarantee you a BCS bowl. The top 6 are in and then the BCS chooses 2 more teams from the rest of the top 12.

yees, yees .

the national championship game will be between #1 & #2 in bcs.

that means that OU will take the #1 spot, not using the big 12 spot (assuiming OU wins the big xii championship).

tha leaves us in a very good place.

Are you sure about this - I was under the impression that whoever was the conference champion used up the conference berth in the BCS - regardless of the national # 1 or 2 ranking. So I assumed (there's that word again) that OU would win the Big 12 and if the # 2 teams ends up being USC that they would also be the Pac 10's representative to the BCS.

The top two teams in the BCS rankings play in the designated national title game.

Then, the remaining conference champions are paired with their tie-in bowls.

After that, it starts to get a little vague, but there is a priority order to the selection. First, any bowl losing its tie-in team to the championship game can pick a replacement from among the remaining teams. If two bowls lose their tie-ins to the title game, the bowl losing the #1 team in the BCS standings picks first.

After that, any bowl with open spots submits a list to BCS HQ ranking three teams they would like for its game. If there are any BCS conference champions still in the pool, they must be first or second on the list. Each bowl will then be given its first choice on its list.

If more than one bowl chooses the same team, the priority order is:

* the bowl with the highest payout
* the bowl that did not get first choice the previous year.

Once all the games are set, the BCS folks can still do some shifting around to try to get more desirable matchups.
Oklahoma's selection as #1 means that the Fiesta Bowl would lose their conference tie-in. Since they picked first last year (hosting the national championship), they would pick last this year. Given that Texas and Oklahoma State travel well and bring lots of fans and they would be less likely to be picked by the other bowls (tie-ins, marquee matchups, geography, lower rank in BCS standings), the winner of the Oklahoma State-Texas game would likely go to the Fiesta Bowl if Oklahoma does not.

Take the Rose Bowl for example.

If USC is 2nd than the Rose Bowl get the Big 10 selection and an at large team. If USC finishes 3rd and if the 2nd rank team is not from the Big 10 than the Rose gets Big 10 v Pac 10 champions no matter what the records are of either team.

Didn't this happen last year when the Rose bowl didn't get Ohio st and they invited OU instead of Big ten #2?

I think its going to be OU and USC in the Sugar, but anything could happen between now and then.

Definitely need to have some sort of playoff system in place.

Ohio State is the most overrated team this year among the real teams. I'm, of course, discounting TCU that doesn't deserve to be in the Top 10.
