BCS Standings, Week One
Here are the current BCS standings totals, the details are found here: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/abcspo...ankings?week=1
1 Oklahoma 2.77 2 Miami (Fla.) 4.10 3 Virginia Tech 10.23 4 Georgia 12.99 5 Florida State 13.14 6 Ohio State 13.20 7 USC 13.83 8 Purdue 21.50 9 Washington St. 23.96 10 Northern Illinois 26.00 11 Nebraska 26.45 12 LSU 26.54 13 Michigan State 27.44 14 TCU 28.17 15 Iowa 32.07 My observations: 1. Most importantly, Oklahoma, Miami, and Va Tech control their own destinies. If they aren't playing on Jan. 4th it's their own fault. 2. Ohio State's strength of schedule leads everyone in the top fifteen. This really helps them to a number six ranking, because the polls are averaging them about eight. Ohio State is also third in total computer rankings, between number two Miami and Virginia Tech. 3. Northern Illinois will do nothing but move up if they keep winning - and they really just need to be in the top eight to make an arguement for inclusion. Why will they keep moving up? As teams lose, they will move up in the polls. Their SOS will do nothing but get better, due to matchups like this weeks against Bowling Green. 4. Washington State has to feel like the "loser" here. But a SOS of seventy-six doesn't help. Five of the six teams behind them in the top twenty five have a better or the same computer ranking. 5. By conference - Big Ten (4), SEC (2), Big East (2), Big 12 (2), Pac 10 (2), ACC (1), ConfUSA (1), MAC (1) Let me know what you think about BCS week one. Ohio State's SOS is BS IMO. Its just high because of a few good teams in the Big 10...but look at the non conference teams they play, no competition (or shouldnt have been) at all! Ohio State WILL lose more games this year they are one of the most highly overrated teams out there!
Oh yea and the winner of next weeks Miami - VTech game will go to the national championship vs Oklahoma, no doubt about that one! |

My observations.
8 team playoff. ACC, Big Ten, SEC, ACC, Big 12 all get an automatic bid and their would be 3 at large teams. You can still keep the other bowl games. You just start the playoffs in 2nd Sat in Dec and you crown the national champ the 1st weekend of Jan. ( I left out the Big East because without BC, VT and Miami they are at the same level as C-USA and Mac). I really hope VT beats Miami and then Miami comes back up to #3 and goes to the championship game because there BCS numbers are better. I can seriously seeing this happen since Miami SOS is that much stronger than VT. This would totally screw over the BCS and give us fans what most of us want. Art |

I don't agree at all Art, what about teams like Northern Illinois and TCU that would definetly deserve a playoff spot if they had playoffs? Your system would totally leave them out and screw over the smaller teams. I'm sorry i just dont agree at with you. Playoffs will never happen in the NCAA unfortunately, so what they need now is a better form of the BCS

tcu and northern illinois dont even come a mile close to deserving a bowl. they will gwet BLOWING out of proportion by playing good teams. hell, at least 5 of their players would die playing OU.
i wish they'd release more of the bcs so i can see where the hell texas is @.

The Ohio State offense is ranked like 109th. Their defense may be better than last year. Special teams a little worse, but still very good. These three things combined keep them competitive and in the hunt thru what now looks like murderers row (they finish with Mich St, Purdue, and Mich).
But... this years team is not as smart as last years. Way more stupid penalties. That'll cause them to lose an extra game or two. I see them 9-3. Thanks for listening. |

This year has the lowest number of undefeated major conference teams in the first BCS. There is a lot of football left and I don't see any team remaining undefeated at the end of the regular season.
Va. Tech and Miami both have tough games coming up after their meeting. I could see the Hokies losing Thursday to West Virginia. Oklahoma looks very strong, but they did the last 2 years. Does anyone remember Oklahoma St. beating them both years? I'll make the prediction right now of a USC-Miami national championship. |

Really, people can actually believe that OU is going to be beat this year? I live in Tulsa so I get to see them alot. They are incredibly talented. OSU beat them 2x now, but there is no chance this year. OU is too good. The sugar bowl will be OU and someone else. Who? Unfortunaly it could very well be Miami. Personally I would like to see VT beat Miami then loose to Pitt the next week. Leaving room for someone else, not that is matters, put any team you want in the nation right now and OU will killem.

Even if UO loses to OSU with SOS being ranked 11th according to the BCS, and they can manage to still make the BCS game, they are 6 points ahead of VT, and since they've lost now, it's more then that. Miami and OU could both probably lose, and be close enough in the BCS to still make the bowl game with a couple big wins towards the end of the year.
