lol, I love how some people, when they have nothing to root for, feel the need to root AGAINST the team that beat them out.

You know though, if you think about it, it makes a hell of a lot more sense to root FOR the team that beat you out. Pissed about the Cubs beating you out of the postseason Astros and Cardinals? Well, think about it - what sounds better? "We got beat out of the postseason by a team that didn't even make it to the World Series" or "We got beat out of the postseason by a team that was good enough to win the World Series?" Personally, I'd rather lose to a team that is decisively better than me this way I can say "well, it's not like we suck, we just lost to a team that's good." Or, instead, you can say "look, this shows that the Cubs suck" when, if you took the time to actually think about what you're saying, that means your team sucks EVEN MORE

I, for one, will be hoping that the Marlins win. I'd rather lose to a team that proves themselves worthy than lose to a team that doesn't go all the way.

Well, SecretMethod, the Cubs/Cards rivalry is as good as the Sox/Yanks rivalry. Say the Red Sox beat them, will you see many Yankee fans rooting for the Sox? Nope.

Just because they are in our division does not mean we should root for them. The Cards did not make the postseason because of the Cubs, they did not make it because of our HORRIBLE PATHETIC pitching staff.

In that, CUBS suck.

It's not the Cubs fault they lost. It was the announcer's fault. If he hadn't said that no recent team had come back to win after being down 3-1, the game would have been won by the Cubs. He jinxed 'em.

Quote:
The Chicago Cubs Curse..or I am glad I'm not him
So how much does a baseball cost? The last time I bought one was over
fifty years ago. I cost about a dollar then. So are we talking about ten dollars
now or what? If you want one bad enough you can go to the store and buy
one. What makes it so desirable for someone to catch a ball at a game. I have
seen mindless hysterical grabbers taking the ball out of the hands of a player
and it became a home run for one team or other. Wednesday night at the
Marlins Cubs game it was the one that started the defeat of the cubs. Some
say it was the curse. Well it was a curse for one person. It will curse his life
or whatever of it he has left of it.
It has been almost a hundred years for the Cubs and it looks like it will be another.
Over the years I have seen and heard of a great number of injuties , law suits
and even a death over those balls that seem to mean so much to the mindless.
I watched the cameran pan outside the stadium at the thousands of fans that
were waiting to celebrate the Cub's victory. Well it didn't happen. A few weeks
ago a father in Alabama came an inch or so from blowing his son's head off
because the Alabama lost to Arkansas. I have seen of suides. Suicide murders
of a mans entire family just because his team lost. But what about when everyone
thinks that one person bears that responsiblity for their dreams being dashed
on the field. And they do blame him for Wednesday night's loss. Already the
police have had to escort him from the stadium. Protect his home. He can't go
to work. He was a little league coach. He can kiss that goodbye and possibly
his job too. As far as getting one in Chicago..well is name is Pariah.
The police cannot protect him forever. How many Chicago fans are there?
How about people who lost a lot of money on the games? Let's face it this
persons life is over. Finished...kaput..The best prospect he has for any kind
of life is for the Chicago Cubs orginazation to make a wittness protection
program for him. Even at that he will still be hunted. What will it take A
complete plastic surgery. name change far away...Not even mars will be
safe for this person. Even now as the Cubs take their final frutless swings
at a ball that persons life has forever changed. No job..no coaching that he
was supposed to love. If you think that it's hell to be hiding from the mob
imagine what it will be like for this person to hide from millions of baseball
fans. His face will be all over the internet. You know one good reason not
to be a wanted criminal today is because of one TV show. There will be
web sites about this person when he dissapears and he will. Either that or he
will be killed by one of the many Chicago fans that heve the same mindless
devotion to the game just like he had that same mindless desire to catch
that fucking ball. That stupid ten dollar ball?
Now, I'm not a big sports fan and I was wondering if there is any truth to the writers' words?

It seems a little too fantastical to me.
Surely after a year or two, it would be forgiven if not forgotten?

maybe this shows that the astros suck even more, but i just cant root for a team that caused your team to lose a chance to do something.

This is pathetic. The only people the Cubs have to blame are the Cubs. This is what happens when you throw a game so that you can win a series at home. It's called karma.

I think it's really pathetic that people are going after this guy and trying to blame him for the Cubs loss. The fact that he caused Alou to miss that ball DID NOT cause the Cubs to lose the NLCS. If he hadn't hit the ball, one of the twelve other people going for it would have. If you look at all the photos taken of that moment, you'll notice that not a single fan in the area was watching where Alou was. They could have just as easily been the ones to hit the ball.

To top that off, the Cubs had a multitude of opportunities to finish that inning with at worst, a tie game. Instead they made some bad plays and had some poor pitching performances. The bottom line is that there's no reason to use that guy as a scapegoat. The Cubs had their chance, and blew it.

If I were that guy, I'd get me a lawyer and start suing all the local papers and radio stations for giving out his name, neighborhood, college, little league team, and place of employment. There are some really stupid people in this world, and I'm sure they comprisied this man's safety by publishing this information. His life is not over, he won't lose his job, and he'll probably still coach little league. If anything is taken from him because of this incident, then the city of Chicago has more problems than the Cubs not going to the Fall Classic.

Dragon2fire, that's what I meant.

It does make sense to say that you want the team that knocked you down to win so you cna say you got beat the the champions. Saying this, however, the Cardinals didn't make the postseason because they played like crap all season, they had a horrible pitching staff and bullpen, no clutch hitting, and we have Tony LaRussa as our manager. The Cubs didn't knock the Cards our of the playoffs, the Cardinals knocked the Cardinals out of the playoffs.

I love Cards fans, always in denial. Here's the facts. 9-8 Cubs when the series with the Cards. Cubs won the division. Cards didn't. Cubs got to the NLCS. Cards didn't.

I'm sorry, who sucks?

See, that's the problem. The Cards suck too. Only difference is, Cubbies fans are humble and know the difference. Cards fans are just plain clueless.

As upset as I am about the cubs losing it was still a great year. any time you can go from 67 or so wins to 88 and go deep into the nlcs, its something to be happy about. I dont think its the fans fault entirely, he just didnt help matters. The very next play alex gonzales dropped what might have been a double play ball that would have ended the inning. Mark Prior was looking pretty tired and started leaving curves over the middle of the plate. Kerry wood did not have his best stuff in game 7. Just wait till next year though.

Well, there ARE parallels. Much like the Yankees, the Cardinals have a rich tradition of winning and lead their league in World Series Championships. And much like the Sox, the Cubs lead their league in choking on fat cock when it counts.

I'm sorry Cards fans but who sucks? At least Cubs made it to the NLCS series of games with the Marlins. Seems to me like the Cubs are better than the Cardinals if you ask me.
