Atlanta Braves
Could any Braves fans tell me what it's like watching your team become impotent in the playoffs?
Would you prefer them not make the playoffs to lose so futily or are you happy winning the NL East consecutively for more than a decade? Just curious about a team that steam rolls through the regular season but falls short when it counts.

There at 12 division title and 1 World Series I think. That is not a good ratio. |

Being an Atlanta fan is just saddening at times. Of course, there are many in Atlanta who hate the Braves for doing so well in the regular season each year. They'd rather have a team that's "more interesting", which I can only assume means "losing consecutively for seasons so that when we have a good season, we can all rally behind the team we've only supported to be fashionable".

personally, I LOVE to see the Braves lose (as punishment for beating my Pirates in the NLCS back in 91(?). But I can sympathize with Braves fans. My Steelers over approximately the same time period have been (almost) a perennial playoff team, and have only one trip to the big dance to show for it (and they lost that one to boot). So I know what they are going through. And for me, at least, it is preferable to almost always have the chance (ie make the playoffs) than to not. Of course, at least the Braves have ONE title over that time period, while the Steelers do not.
dammit I NEED another Lombardi Trophy in Steeltown!!!! meanwhile, go Cubbies!

Yes, the Braves strive to make the playoffs every year, and lose on purpose.
So Hrothgar, who's your favorite baseball team? I see you're in Florida. I'm glad to see them doing well again. Hey, at least Ted Turner didn't dismantle the entire team after they won the series back in 1995. Unlike the travesty which occured in Florida after the Marlins won. People with this mindset piss me off. Buffalo Bills fans get it, as was mentioned Steelers fans get it. It's stupid.

I'm not a Marlins fan. My question was not about the Braves but directed at the Braves fans. Just wondering if they are fed up with the meltdown that always comes in October. I didn't make an asinine statment that "the Braves lose on purpose". Reread what I posted and if you're stilled pissed off...it wasn't my intention to do so.

Braves fan here... pretty sad to see them exit again, but the sad part is I've gotten used to it now after many years in a row of them doing the same thing... so I was pretty stoic last night...
I must say I'm not too surprised to see the Cubs win though... When you have Wood and Prior pitching, and in a short series, just makes them extremely dangerous. Great pitching will always beat great batting. It'll be another weird offseason... familiar faces going away (Sheffield, Lopez, and Maddux all free agents... I think tops the Braves keep 2 of them, more likely only 1), and who knows who else will show up. People keep saying that next year will be the year that the streak will end and someone else will win the division, but it still doesn't happen. I think it'd be best for the Braves to make it into the postseason involved in a pennant/wild-card race... that way they're playing with desperation every game instead of coasting into the postseason like they usually do. |
