Dallas Cowboys : Return to Glory?
What do y'all think?
the way they're playing now, anything is possible. they had the #1 offense in the nfl comin into this game and their defense was just superb today. their secondary continues to impress and they dl and 2 safeties in 2 consecutive yards. the game's not over, but it looks like parcells is going to pull another W. and emmit got his homecoming today, w/ 6 carries for -1 yards and a messed up shoulder! it was nice to see jerry jones hug #22 after the game.

Maybe the talent HAD been there the whole time, just waiting for a real coach to tap it and tell Jerry Jones to keep his sorry ass up in the press box where it belongs. Even if the 3-1 is due to a soft schedule, they'll still finish better than 5-11 easily. 8-8? 9-7? Well see. |

I knew they were playing well, and QC has really stepped up, but I could not believe when I heard that stat! Got to give Parcells aTON of credit. I didn't think he could do much for atleast another year. |

The Cowboys have only played a bunch of cream puffs. We'll see how they do when the beat some real teams. Beating up on a couple of sorry New York teams and a weak Arizona team is nothing to brag about. I hope they can keep it up, but it's just too hard to tell so I'm not gonna get excited yet. Hopefully they can at least make the playoffs and be a respectable team this year.
BTW, I've been a Cowboys fan my entire life. |

Well we will find out a lot about this team in the next couple weeks. If they play well against Philly who has owned them for the last few years, then I think they can make the playoffs. (maybe) 8-8 or 9-7 doesnt seem out of reach. At the same time, with Parcells, I always feel they will be prepared and have a chance to beat any team this year. At least its fun to be a cowboy fan again this year. The last few years have been tough. |

But, I thought they were in the running for the "Worst Team in Shoulder PAds" award. So, for them to beat anyone, let alone 2 New York teams on the road is impressive for me. |

It's a bit early to think "Return to glory". They're heading in the right direction. They've got the right coach. Now give them time to get the right players.

other than Britney Spears naked on my bed... I'd love nothing more than seeing Dallas restored to their rightful place atop the NFL. but, it seems a bit early to proclaim that the 'Boys are back (wait 'til they play Philly & Tampa Bay)... then again, who'd a thunk that Carolina would still be undefeated???

Their schedule hasn't been the toughest, but they're winning. It doesn't matter how difficult the team is, the bottom line is the record. They won't be an intimidating force in the playoffs...but after the last couple of frustrating years??? Enjoy being in first place for as long as it lasts.

I've had a great week! I'm not a fair weather sports fan - I have had, and only have had but two teams forever - I don't give a damn who is playing, I am a Sooner fan, and a Cowboy fan. (Oops- forgot about Junior Go #8) There have been a lot more downs than ups for a long time but I don't watch sports simply because there is a game on - if I have no real interest in the outcome I'll watch Tom & Jerry - I don't care if the Chiefs are playing the Avalance in the World Series - it simply ain't my thing! Dallas looked great this afternoon and my Sooners are simply awesome - bring on Miami or Virginia Tech - doesn't matter one iota! It has been a great year up to this point - Dude! Sorry 'bout what happened to your football team yesterday - Texas ( land of my birth, by the way) is almost on the Atlantic Coast, sorta' - you know the Gulf of What-ever-in-the hell-that-country-south-of here is called is just an extension of the Atlantic, sorta' any hoo! Texas could probably win the ACC but that is besides the point! Lots of really good Bloody Marys ( 1 part Finlandia Lime Vodka to 5 parts Snappy Tom - add ice and absolutely, positively nothing else) have me in absolute bliss this evening - sports wise, anywise! Y"all have a great afternoon! I'm outa' here!

The Cowboys and the Sooners lotsa parallels. Stoops first year he took Blakes talent and turned them into a winner. Decent talent great coaching and preparation and a total change in the players mindset. Add a couple of solid players the next year and a Nat'l Championship. I see The Tuna doing the same thing decent talent, though not his normal style. The mindset is definitely changed and they are better prepared. They won't win a Super bowl this year or next year, but the playoffs will again become commonplace and within the next 5 years I think they'll bring home the hardware. We have the Mastermind here in Denver, but I think " The Tuna" is the lead fish in the school!
Boomer Sooner! ..... Any Questions??

Boy, I have to disagree in a HUGE way here. I loathe Geriatric Jones and will always LOVE the sooners. But even as that may be, I see no comparison between the two.
Parcells has had success everywhere he's gone. Stoops was noone, pretty much, until OU. I can't say there are any similarities...well other than they are both doing damn well this year...so far. Jdoe |

this thread needs a bump up again.
they pretty much man-handled the lions today. the lions are not good, but dallas owned 'em in their own field.

Actually I have to disagree again. The Lions are a HUGE improvement from prior years. Yes they are still trying to rebuild, but "still suck ass?" No, re-watch the games this season. They are obviously on a path that will do well within two years at the latest.

Cowboys play in the weakest division in football this year, IMO. Divisional games will have alot to do with they're record. They haven't made a believer out of me. When they play Tampa (Who BTW is a far cry from last years team as well) then we'll see.
But really, look at they're last 10 games. at Tampa Washington Buffalo at NE Carolina Miami at Philly at Washington Giants at New Orleans They play 4 games against division teams who can't beat there way out of a wet paper bag. I woulden't be surprised to see a 11-5 year. A little skewed by the sorry division they play in. And don't get all happy about a defense shutting down Detroit. It's not an accomplishment shutting down the 3rd worst offense in Football. EDIT: The 3rd worst offense in football, without a 42 point game, is the worst. They've never scored over 17 points since. It's also one of the worst defensive teams as well. Last edited by Kurant; 10-20-2003 at 12:45 PM.. |

Nice to see Parcells commenting on the idiotic penalties and flubs, rather than getting too excited about whooping the lions. Also nice to see the head coach controlling the crackheads and gangbangers that have tarnished the organization over the years. I eagerly await the Tampa game to see if the 'pokes are for real.

I think everyone needs to deal with the fact the regardless of what happens against Tampa Bay, the Cowboys are for real. Now they still might not make the playoffs, but the problems that have plagued this franchise since Jimmy Johnson left are over. Under Parcells they will continue to improve each week. They will be ready to play each week. The coaches will be prepared. They were not as talentless as most people thought. There are some decent football players on this team that just needed the proper coaching and motivation to improve. This may justify Jerry Jones a little more as a GM. The players that he has brought in over the last few years are starting to perform.

How can you say he Cowboys are for real? They haven't played a single team OVER .500 as of week 7. Week 8, guess what, they STILL won't play a team over 500, and they lost to Atlanta, which has the WORST record in the league.
They are real if your .500 or under. When they hit the 4 week stretch(10-13) of playing teams leading they're division, or at contending, we'll see how "for real" they are. I'm also still confused why people think Tampa is still a "real deal" team. It's quite obvious they just aren't getting it done this year. Unless they pick it up, they won't be going anywhere this year. Last edited by Kurant; 10-21-2003 at 04:09 PM.. |

I agree that the difficult stretch of the schedule is coming up, but really look at the teams that your talking about. First 4-3 Buffalo. They have played New England, Jacksonville,Miami, Philly, Cin., NYJ, and Washington. They are 1-1 against teams over .500. Next up is 5-2 New England. They played Buffalo, Philly,NYJ, Washington, Tenn.,NYG, and Miami. 2-1 against teams over .500. Then 5-1 Carolina who played Jacksonville, Tampa, Atlanta,NO, Indy and Tenn. 1-1 against teams over .500 Finally 4-2 Miami who played Houston, NYJ, Buffalo,NYG, Jacksonville and NE. 1-1 against teams over .500. Who really have any of these teams played? Each other? Carolina played Indy and Tenn and split 1-1. My real point is the league is so wide open and the distance between the good teams and the average teams is close. There are no great teams anymore. The last of the great teams were the 94 Niners and 95 Cowboys. When the schedule came out , everyone said the tough stretch was at the beginning for the Cowboys. Atlanta, NYJ,NYG Philly. |

When you lose they say you suck. When you win they say you didn't play anybody. The Cowboys, like every other team in the league, play their schedule. The Cowboys can not be blamed for the fact that any team they play lost a few in the weeks prior. What they have done is improve week to week. Worked to eliminate the lack of discipline penalties, concentrated on the things they do well, and stopped with the stupid clock management. I'm no Kool-Aid drinking Cowboy fan looking for Superbowl tickets, but I am a lifelong Cowboy fan (both of us est. in 1960) pleased to see the team potential being reached. The Cowboys are mentally and physically prepared to win each week. Try not to be surprised when they do. Check the power ratings as well. Sportsline has them tied for 6th.
