Holyfield v Toney

Any thoughts on this one people.
I think it could be a good competitive fight. Holy has more all round ability and for a change will have power and weight in his favour. Although with Holyfield you never know he is an all time great yet cant keep out of the ring. He has earned more than enough yet still after more glory. Imo Holy around the 7th.

One thing for us brits the holy fight and the Morales bill are being shown back to back on 4th oct as part of sky ports subscription. no ppv brilliant.

I think Toney is good but overrated. He tends to get very lazy in just about all of his fights. Hell, even Jirov almost beat him. He can take a punch, though. But a Holyfield punch? Dunno. Both of them are way past their prime, so there's really no telling. But Holyfield SHOULD win. On size and determination and strength. I'll watch it for the hell of it.

This fight doesn't peak my interest.

Holyfield has taken a series of fights that won't expose him too badly. But neither is a contender, and I'd much rather see a fight between a couple fo younger guys. It's like seeing a fist fight between two older guys - the one that walks away bloody you just kinda feel sorry for.

But, as for a prediction, I wouldn't bet against Holyfield.

This will be a helluva fight. Toney is a throwback fighter from the old days, he is very shifty and has quick hands. Holyfield is old but is the bigger fighter (for once) and has tremendous power. I've met Toney several times and that guy can talk some shit. He used to be a great middleweight until he got lazy and got his ass kicked by Jones Jr. (which he denies) and ballooned up. He has changed his lazy ways and has reinvented himself into a great fighter. I think he will outlast Evander and win it by decision.

Lestat. Toney was good but he beat a finished fighter Holy had nothing left almost anyone in the top 20 would of beat him. So sad a true great hope he realises now, its time to go.

Rest easy you will always be a champ.

Let's all start an internet petition to stop Holyfield from fighting. Going down and having to throw in the towel on a bodyshot is not good. And it's not entertaining in any way - in fact, it's a little sad.

It's very sad that Holyfield is still fighting. Maybe after losing to an opponent that is actually smaller he can swallow his pride and hang the gloves up. He has given the public a lot of great fights and is worse for wear as a result. His God is not going to save him from becoming (more) punch-drunk.

As for Toney, I doubt there is anyone left for him to call out. A fight with Roy would be appealing.

It's sad to see such a great warrior as Evander beat up by a punk like Toney. Toney would not have had a chance when Holyfield was in his prime. He actually stuck out his tongue during the fight at one point and acted like a complete idiot after the fight. I wonder why I even watch boxing anymore.

I question my own love for boxing these days.

Holyfield vs. Toney is a $45 PPV, meanwhile, many good young boxers are passed over. Fights like Ward vs. Gatti are almost looked over completely, probably because there's good sportsmanship and it's about the boxing and not who can spew the most bullshit before and after the fight.

And as usual, who's to blame? The media. They want to focus completely on the storyline surrounding the fight, what moron x said to jackass y, what jackass y did to panzy z after he heard what moron x said, etc. etc. Boxing is looking more and more like professional wrestling.

The boxing organizations are to blame too, but I could go on for far too long on those people.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

I agree. Holy's BEEN washed up. And what's his reason for still fighting? He wants to unite the heavyweight belts Pulllease! He never do it!

Amen. I totally agree. I think it's more the promoters more that the media. Promoters make the fights happen. They're destroying the sport. I've attended many, many fights and I am now very selective on which fight I go to now beacuse I get sick when I watch some of these fights. It's mostly select fighters padding they're records. You have very few competitive fights.

The fight should've never been on PPV. The Jones JR./Tarver fight is also PPV. What a joke!

I disagree. There are soooo many competitive fights it is ridiculous. Maybe not on pay-per-view, but pay-per-view accounts for maybe 5% of all the boxing that is on television. And the heavyweight division is not the only division out there. Right now the heavyweight division is weak; so what, give it some time and it will rejuvenate itself again. This is nothing new.

Just because your team has a bad season, don't write them off. Everyone has dry spells.

Docbungle I think you've misunderstood me. Most of the boxing I've watched is at ringside (at the event). I'm not talking about TV. I used to go every month (maybe even a couple of times a month) and most of the "fights" I've seen are just promoters have their fighters pad their stats. And yes I know that the heavyweight division is not the only weightclass out there and it is very weak (it's been weak for a long time) and it will get better (sometime).

I prefer the lighter weight classes as to the heavyweights beacase the fights are much more lively.

I don't understand the whole "Just because your team has a bad season, don't write them off. Everyone has dry spells" deal. What team are you talking about?
