Bowling Steps
Ok Some of my friends and I got to talking about Bowling, and the topic got to be "How many steps do you take before you throw the ball?" I take 4 and most everyone I talked to takes 5 or 3 only one other Person took 4. So, Bowlers, how many steps are in your approach in Bowling???
|
haven't bowled in a while [too long, in fact] but I'm pretty sure it's 3 steps for me.
|
For me, if i bowl which i don't do that often, i think it's usually 3 steps.
|
Depends really, if your playing deep in the lane, in front of the ball return, I've taken as few as three. When I need to walk straight to the line, instead of my normal 7-9board drift, I'll take as many as six.
Usually, league and house shots however, normally 4. I booked an average of 217 last year. I'm into it more the most people are.. hehe. |
Leading with my right, I take three full steps to release.
I do take a funky little hop step first that I've never been able to figure out how I developed it, but it's in there for good now. Of course, I found out that bowling twists my knee and really screws it up, so I haven't bowled for awhile. |
Three.
I know you should use four, but with four my timing is all wrong. For me it's my wrist that bowling messes up, thats why I usually limit myself to 2 games in any one outing. |

Great ave Man!!!! The best I ever carried for a year is 202 . which isn't too bad considering I bowl 3 games a week On a league, never practice and I am drunk most of the time that I am bowling. This year my ave is 198. |
Right handed, 4 steps, start on the right foot.

4 for the first game, 3 1/2 after a few cold ones!

202 man, nothing wrong with that. I only bowl 3 games a week as well, but I bowl in Vegas in January/July for the Mega-Bucks events, also try to bowl at least every-other year in the Team USA national qualifier. (best i've ever finished is 11th). I used to practive 35-50 games a week, that stopped when I got married and we had our son. Your just like 90% of the recreational players, and 202 is a good number. =) I'm getting to the "recreational" part of it myself, I find myself drinking more Wed. nights, then I ever used to.. |
I'm, 18, I've bowled for 10 years, average is 185, high game is 275, and I take 7 steps. A bunch of tiny ones at the start, and then a few huge ones. It's all about how you feel comfortable, don't let anyone ever tell you there's a "right" way to bowl. I've seen people that I thought were joking around kick my ass because they bowl funny, but they've perfected it.

5 steps for me. My last 3 book averages are 206, 200, 203 I think. I'm not bowling this year and I took about 2 years off in between the 206 and 200 years. Oh yeah in intramurals in the Marine Corps (non-sanctioned) I finished with 215 or so. I also have a sheet from that league that has 9 games on it with an average of 242.

I take five steps. Been doing so for almost twelve years now. This is the first year in quite a while where I'm bowling in three leagues - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.
The Tuesday night league is a scratch sport shot league. We threw it together at the last minute and managed to get ten teams of three. I dig the challenge of making a more precise shot, but it definitely screws my timing up for my other house leagues. Averaging 203 on the sport condition, 204 on Wednesdays, and 210 on Thursdays. Don't know if I'll be able to take 35 weeks of it though.... Oh! I also run a tournament on Friday nights. If you live in the Pittsburgh, PA area and are interested in bowling in a sport shot head to head tournament, we'd love to see you there. I take 4 and I bowl with people who use anywhere from 2 to 7. Everybody has a natural rhythm, and the important thing is your timing at release. I coach bowlers of all ages and encourage everyone to find that rhythm and make it work for them.
My average: 198 22 year old son: 225 15 year old son: 190 Wife: 156 (best ever!) 11 Year old daughter: 111 (only her 2nd season) Bowling is a great thing for a family to do together! |
I take three.
|
I take 5, but after reading all those averages I ain't telling.
Until last year we used to bowl in leagues year 'round. My best average was in the 190's, but it isn't that high anymore. Now we only bowl in summer leagues, so I have my evenings back for the winter. |
cool responces..... I would like to see how that one guys manages to get 7 steps in...... hahaha sounds like he is good though!!!! BTW my high game is 290. left the 7 pin in the first frame.... picked it up then struck out...... anyone here had a 300????
