Who is out for a run @ the national championship?
Michigan
Kansas State Georgia Pittsburg Texas Florida Anyway, the highest ranked team with a loss now is Texas (according to last week's poll @ 13). And four teams ahead of Texas lost today, which leaves 9 ranked teams at a shot to play in the national championship. Any thoughts on this?

Texas can get back in the hunt, Florida State will lose to Miami, so they will be gone. I think VA Tech can beat Miami, seeing as how VA Tech is in Blacksburg this time around. LSU, will get beat, and so will Tennessee, so despair not fellow Longhorn, there's still plenty of season left.

My thoughts:
Kansas State and Florida are out - period. Michigan has the best chance out of the one-loss teams because their loss was a "good" one - on the road against a raknked opponent. I believe this will put them higher in the polls then Texas. Follow Michigan by Texas, Georgia, Pittsburgh in that order. For the record, I don't think Kansas State, Florida, or Pittsburgh wil run the table. |

I believe Texas, Michigan, and Georgia have the best shot at being the national champ. A lot of things have to go right for them, including winning out the rest of the season. I think (and hope) the BCS will be all screwed up this year with many 1 loss teams. Since these teams lost early, they have a good shot at the championship. We need a playoff!!!

I don't see USC losing another game. FSU will beat Miami at home and remain undefeated the rest of the year. Oklahoma probably will be beat at some point. Tennessee and LSU both will go undefeated into the SEC championship game. So if you are a one loss team, you have no shot at the national championship in my view.

Needs help (eliminated upon next loss): Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Northern Illinois, TCU, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Purdue I think Nebraska loses their shot with just one loss, like Kansas State did. In 2000, Oklahoma won the national championship despite being #20 going into October, Minnesota and Missouri might just could pull off a similar miracle run to the Sugar Bowl. |

I definately think Texas still has a shot. I have always believed that if you are going to have a loss, then one towards the begining of the season is better than one at the end. If Texas can win out, which is a pretty tough schedule, then they have a shot. Since they play OU, KState, OSU, Nebraska and A&M, if they can win all of them, I think they might creep back up into 1 or 2 in the BCS. Miami is playing pretty good, but I think they won't be able to keep going undefeated. Also, I don't think there is anyway that Ohio State can keep up this no loss record. I think Virginia Tech is definately beatable. I think Florida State will probably lose at least one game. The one team that has looked very good is USC. I am a little worried about them. Oh well it is a little early to start talking about it. I think after October 11, I will have a better idea if Texas can make it to the National Championship, since that will be the biggest test when they play OU.

K state is out. No way they beat whichever Texas/Oklahoma team(s) they play. Pitt is out. No way they beat both Miami and Va Tech. I think that we will probably see an undefeated team (probably Oklahoma) against a 1-loss team in the title game.

Yeah, I pretty much disagree with ESPN on all of the polls (even ranking Texas higher than Arkansas, you just don't rank the team that got beat higher than the team that gave the beating). Nebraska? WTF? They didn't even play! Michigan should be dropped lower than that, I mean, you could put Oregon at #10 and I wouldn't mind. Iowa has a good ball club. LSU I understand. Tennessee I understand as well. I can see not dropping Georgia so far as common sense. But Michigan staying in the Top Ten?!!?! Oy, those guys at ESPN need to have their heads checked.
It's the DECB at its worst (Damn East Coast Bias).

I don't think that anyone with a lose will be playing in the sugar this year. There are too many good teams. Miami is a good team, that as much as I would love to see loose, I doubt they will. Oklahoma has the best looking team as of right now. They could blow anyone out it seems. They still have yet to play a really hard team, so I may be overrating them. Ohio state just has a propensity not to loose, so they MIGHT be able to finish undefeated, especially if MIch plays as bad as they did this weekend. Can you imagine though if 5 or 6 teams end up with one loss, BCS is going to have a hard time with that one.

That's the question you need to ask yourself when trying to figure out these polls. My two cents - Michigan is the best team with one loss out there. Georgia didn't look very good at times during their game, and their offense looked pretty bad. Texas, well, they lost to the only team that has challenged them. So in out little Top 20 poll, my thought process was this "Michigan would beat Georgia on a neutral field. Georgia would beat Texas on a neutral field, etc." And I ranked them accordingly. But none in the Top10, that's not giving respect to the teams that haven't lost. |

If the Miami Hurricanes beat FSU this year, they are going all the way.... They're Defense can stop Virginia Tech's Running game (Kevin Jones), and there secondary can stop Pittsburg's Passing game (Rutherford/Fitzgerald)....
Keep in mind, the Canes dont really bring there A-game, until its very neccesary... (look at what they did to Florida in 18 minutes) I think they have the best shot, and quite possibly i see them matching up with USC.... Oklahoma has got a shot, but somewhere along the line i think they will lose. Perhaps It could be a rematch with Ohio State, if the buckeyes keep having the luck they've had the past few years.... but whatever, i just wanna see my canes go for the third straight year, and bring back the crown.... |

Sorry SAM821, but Miami just doesn't have the offense this year. The florida gators are having a hard time with just about everyone, so that win, while an impressive come-back, was against one of the dumbest coaches in NCAA. It will happen again against a team with good defense and you are not going to be able to rally for the win again.

Yep, i sure do.... I dont think it matters, when these two teams play, home field advantage is non-existant.... (too many miami fans go up there, and vice versa)
Im not guarnanteeing a victory, Im just saying if miami wins that game, thats the defining moment of an undefeated season... (the UM/FSU game ALWAYS is for both teams...) |

Needs help (eliminated upon next loss): Nebraska, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, TCU, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Purdue, Iowa, Southern California, Oregon, Air Force Oklahoma, Miami, and Georgia picked a good Saturday to take off. Tennessee and Arkansas almost didn't survive unscathed, both having to survive OT. Iowa, Southern Cal, and Oregon weren't so lucky, and Missouri got flat-out eliminated. |
