OSU's chances w/o Krenzel??
Well it has been reported that the defending national champions will probably be without Craig Krenzel for their matchup this weekend with Bowling Green. Understandably this should not be a problem for most any other team, but as we know in the past that OSU tends not to perform unless its a HUGE game. So with Krenzel out will this game be the fall for OSU that everyone is waiting for? Or is Krenzel even that important a piece in the OSU puzzle? Back-ups McMullin, Zwick and Smith are capable, but when the game comes down to the wire, will it be the offense that will have to step up or the defense? Bowling Green seems like a decent advarsary, beating Purdue 2 weeks ago, they are better then they are advertised. What are your predictions for this game?

why is krenzel going to be out?

Ohio State will stumble a few times this season. This one is gonna be closer then the experts think.
For Ohio State it's simple - knock around a undersized Bowling Green D-line and win going away (alla Washington). Or - run the ball as uneffectively as they have the last two weeks and lose. The quarterback situation shouldn't have too much to do with the outcome if Ohio State can run. If they can't - there is a reason Krenzel beat out McMullen, and if you stop to think about it, that's pretty sad. If McMullen is forced to make throws, then Bowling Green will prevail. Zwick is the prized recruit with the cannon for an arm, Smith has the rare combination of size and speed at the quarterback position, but neither are ready to win this game. As far as talent and ability, Zwick and Smith make Krenzel and McMullen look real bad. So the future for Ohio State is very bright at the position, but that may not help on Saturday. Remember, Craig Krenzel will make smart decisions and will not lose you any games. But he won't win you any either. My predicitions: McMullen starts and may be relieved, but not due to poor play - Tressel may just want to see a change-up. Ohio State rushes for one-hundred and fifty yards. The offensive line will be the position that most needs to step up. Bowling Green quarterback Josh Harris (who is like 6-3 225) will pass for more yards than Phillip Rivers, but his o-line will give up big plays by the Bucks d-line. Bucks win by a touchdown. That said, noone would be surprised if Josh Harris doesn't have himself a big coming out party on Saturday. There is a reason why Bowling Green is getting the atention they are getting in the polls. |

Ohio State is afraid he may tear the muscle there which would require Tommy John's surgery and effectively end his career. |
Bowling Green is just down the road from me, and I hate them, a crappy stadium, and they always tend to get the best recruits. But, OSU's O line should put a hurting on their D line, and run for 200+ yards with or without Krenzel. I think the score will be within 10 points, but OSU will be on the plus side of that.

But the Ohio State D is very good, one of the best in the nation. The problem is, Krenzel has been THE offense for the Buckeyes. They can win without Clarett, but it will be almost impossible to win without Krenzel.

ToiletDuck, Did you go to BG? Josh Harris should have one more year left, but during his red shirt freshman year, with 1 game left, he was put into a game. He should be able to make something of himself in the NFL.
He will put a hurting on the Buckeye D, but once he's figured out, he'll have no where to go. |
Do you think OSU would put in either Zwick or Smith if mcmullin does a half ass job? They are Redshirted this year I believe. Who knows I would love to see both, but I don't want them to waste a year. There is word that Mcmullin is a better passing QB then krenzel. He just doesn't move around alot. Well I think it will be another close game. But who knows. maybe OSU will finally get it things going and win by a few TDs.

I'm not sure how good McMullen is, but I've watched him every time he's taken the field. He doesn't look to impressive. Remember, he was pulled for Krenzel, and Krenzel did well and never looked back. |

Guv135's assessment is a good one.
Lack of a running game has been weird. Some of it has to be laid on the coaches. Poor play calling. Poor coaching of technic. If they get that figured out, BG will be no problem. If not, it will be very close. I'm looking forward to the game. However, I wouldn't bet on the Buckeyes, against the spread anyway, this year. Thanks for listening. |
"Remember, Craig Krenzel will make smart decisions and will not lose you any games. But he won't win you any either."
I gotta call bullshit on that one. I can think of at least 3 or 4 games that Krenzel has won during OSU's current best in the nation win streak. Krenzel is a decent, if unspectacular, athlete, but has THE single most important quality in a QB: exceptional intelligence. BG? yer kidding me, right? even without Krenzel, BG has almost NO chance against OSU. OSU's lines (both O and D) will eat BG alive. |

Craig Krenzel is no Philip Rivers. He is no Cody Pickett. He is no Josh Harris (BG's quarterback). In other words, his arm will not win you a game. He will not consistently deliver the big play downfield (though he has had some throughout his career). He is not a big-time qb. When you called bullshit, you said he wins games with his head. I say, he doesn't lose games with his head. A smart quarterback will not make dumb mistakes and put his defense in a bad position. All the brains in the world won't actually win you any games. As for your assessment of BG, well, Josh Harris is 5-0 against BCS teams. They are one of the top-three teams in the MAC. I think you may not understand how good this team is. They are certainly better than San Diego State. Yes, IF Ohio State dominates up front this will be an nice looking win. But Ohio State couldn't dominate up front against San Diego State, so we'll see. BTW, all the local papers have McMullen starting on Saturday, though no announcement has been made. |
