Dolphins
Miami was the fashionable pick this pre-season to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Yes, there are other favorites, but once again the Dolphins have high expectations to start the season.
They've had those expectations before with no results since Don Strock was still on the roster. With the opening game loss to Houston, does this put Dave Wannstedt on the hot seat early??? |
A very hot seat especially since they could have went to overtime if he chose to just kick the PAT instead of try and go for 2. A little overconfident I think.

I like Wannstedt but the Miami front office is looking for wins. Even ESPN said this morning that he could be on the hot seat early if the Dolphins didn't start out winning. I liked the call he made but it just didn't turn out the way he wanted. That's football. The Dolphins still have the rest of the season in front of them.

Wannstedt has a history of going for two late in the game, he did it before when he was with the Bears in a game against the Packers. He failed there too.

As long as Miami can rebound and get to their usual 8-4 record at the start of December, then Wannestedt will be fine. Now, another late-season collapse will likely mean his head. |
The Dolphins suck they cost me a lot of points yesterday in my pool.

campo lost his opener against houston and he's not the headcoach anymore.
i dont think that this will be the case in miami though as they've been an above avg team. |
The most mind boggling thing about the Dolphins is the way Wannstedt came to be there. Jimmy quit and then on his recommendation they hire Wannstedt? WTF!!! How many other instances in any other sport has this particular scenario ever been done?
Usually once a coach quits, is fired, retires whatever a list of suitable candidates are interviewed are then hired and then he goes and hires his guys(assistant coaches, players, etc.) Instead of cleaning house they got another Jimmy "disciple" and they are not the better for it. |
I'll be there on sunday to watch Old Man Testaverde beat down the Dolphins. Or so I would hope...

It's a long season coming up so one loss does not break a team. Overconfident, perhaps they were but I would rather see confidence than no motivation or drive. And, I liked Dave's call...yup, could have gone a safer route but I like the gutsy calls. Is he in the hot seat early - sure and you know why? Every coach that loses a game that is a "gimme" is in the hot seat with the media all over him - and every coach that comes from behind is a hero. It's the nature of sports.
Just wait until next Sunday..... |
