The Reds Call It Quits
 

Arrrggggh!

I feel betrayed! After standing by my team all year, John Allen goes and fires Bowden and Boone, apparently with absolutely no plan for the rest of the season. I agree with the firings, but I would have hoped that upper management would have had a plan in place.
Now we have 9 million minor league pitching PROSPECTS, and we only had to give up one of our best hitters (Guillen), a good reliever (Williamson), and one of our better defensive players, as well as a great guy (Boone). Oh yeah, and one of our other decent relievers, too (White). And we got some cash too! Whee! Now we can overspend on another reclamation pitcher!

Hopefully, the rest of the team will stay together for the forseeable future. I'm not a big fan of some of our future "franchise" players like Larson and Pena, but I like the rest of the team. My one big worry is Ryan Wagner. He has some good stuff, but he's young. I think they moved him too fast, so we'll just have to wait and see.
One of our local radio personalities had a great idea for MLB. For all of the teams like the Reds who don't seem to want to contend, they could start a new minor league level, AAAA. Then, the Reds could clean up, playing teams like the Tigers and Indians. Heh.
Oh well, that's enough ranting for the moment...Any other thoughts out there, not just on the Reds, but your favorite teams going the wrong direction?

And, I'm a bit of an Indians fan too, so this is just pushing me closer to apathy towards baseball...

Yeah, well my Dodgers cant hit a tee-ball and we gave up 5 of the best prospects in the minors for 2 veterans who's best days are behind them. We have shoved the barbed dildo up our own ass and chased it with a jack hammer. Not only will we finish this season out of the playoffs, but we will flounder in the gutter of the NL west for years to come.

At least my O's are on the right track...

Have faith, Halx. We stole three top pitchers from the Giants for Ponson, so let's see where they are in a few years with their old team...

Here is where Bud Selig falls woefully short. He won't stand up to the clubs. This was a auction, with the only proceeds to replenish the Reds being cash. Which they won't spend on players. This is an awful blow to any hopes the Reds have of contending in years to come.

What an awful day to be a Reds fan. This kinda thing makes the Indians look like an A+ organization.

Have some faith, holtmate. The Indians have the best pitching prospects in the minors. Cliff Lee, Jason Davis, Francisco Cruceta, CC Sabathia, Billy Traber and Brian Tallet are getting ready for next season.

As for this year, maybe go watch the Yankees AAA Club? At least there you'll see what its like to root for an organization, whether you like it or not, that is truely A+.

Actually, as an organization I believe the Yankees have very few true prospects; they traded them all away for other teams' players. Give them five years...the Devil Rays will be ahead of them.

Gotta feel for the Reds' fans. Here they build it hoping the new ballpark hoping the team will come and they get truly shafted. I am in no way a proponent of litigation, but the city should sue the owners & MLB for fraud over the firesale.

The Yankees don't need a farm system. They have enough money to let Montreal, Pittsburg, Oakland, etc. develop the talent and steal the proven players when these small market teams can no longer afford them. MLB will never fix itself until they have true revenue sharing between all teams. This will never happen because the owners are too stupid & inept to band together to make this occur.

The Yankees keep Henson and trade every single other prospect. Why? Because when they're actually good and in the majors, Steinbrenner will buy them right back.

A true Reds fan would know that Guillen was a free agent next year and wouldn't resign with us because he wanted to play everyday. So we got 3 Oakland pitchers for him. Second, Boone was the most popular Reds player for sure but he is a career .270 hitter who was at the height of his ability this year. The Reds got the Yankees #1 pitching prospect. The Reds did what they had to do to get some pitching. They are stocked in the outfield (Kearns, Dunn, Griffey, Pena, Mateo and Smitherman in the minors and third base (Branyan, Castro and Edwin Encarnacion and Brandon Larson in the minors.

All year we would would win10-9 or lose 15-3. Pitching was needed with a rotation of Graves, Dempster, Haynes and Wilson. We are getting unfairly criticized for scrapping the season, saving money, and letting some of our minor leaguers get their feet wet. I like the players that were traded and I'll miss them but I'm, first and foremost, a Reds fan, not a Reds player fan.

It's sad to see them do this, but after trading everyone they're on a winning streak. Hopefully thier farm league is good and maybe see them fighting for a wild card spot in two or three years.

Hrothgar, those are some excellent points. I do agree with you. My original post waqs basically a frustrated rant. I will always support the Reds, regardless of the players. It was just depressing to see the team give up quality players for what looks like almost nothing, and some cash. Gammons did have the right idea. I liked his offer for Dempster on the deadling special, too.
I am looking forward to seeing Claussen later this season, and some of the other young pitchers who have come up don't look too bad either.
As for the Yankees...I just don't want to see them win the World Series. Go Boston! And then, go everyone else in the AL! After that, go NL! (Except for Atlanta) :D

That's because the Tigers are fielding a AAA team.
