MLB All-star game reflections
Well.. my man Gagne dropped the ball.. sorry all!
I thought the game was interesting enough to keep on in the background while I did my work. The lead changes and the big hits made it fun. It felt a lot more competetive because they focused more on the game than the mics that they put on players. *shrug* It was just another game, didn't have that exhibition feel and it didn't have that game 7 feel either. |
not too bad a game, better than last year. Was dissapointed with Gagne's performance but am an american league fan so it's ok with me. I think that Blalock should have gotten the MVP.
|
Disappointed that Roy Halladay didn't pitch in this game since he has the best AL pitching record so far this season.
Liked the fact both Carlos and Vernon contributed one RBI each. |
I thought it was a great game. I figured the AL was out of it when they were down 4 runs with Wagner, Gagne and Smoltz left in the pen.
I was disappointed that Mike MacDougal didn't get to pitch for the AL, especially since he leads the AL in saves. Again, no respect for my boys in blue. |
The announcers, players and managers appeared to take it very seriously. I enjoyed seeing the managers argue over a few calls. Let's see about getting someone tossed next year.
|
Whaaa Hooo! Thanks to Giambi's home run - the Yankees have home field in the World Series! Way to carry your team Jason. See you in October captain clutch!
|
Halx - Thinking about it some more - Maybe it is good that Gagne gave up that bomb. 39 straight chances for him for LA. If he is going to blow one - it might was well not hurt his team.
|
leave it to the dodgers to blow it since they wont make it anyways :o
|
I agree with Halx regarding the feel of the game. I was actually kind of excited about the change making the allstar game a little more important. However, I feel that the game lost some of its fun exhibitionist feeling in the process. It was a good game as far as allstar games go... I just couldn't really get myself to care.
|
I about pooped myself when Furcal hit that final fly ball, thought for sure it was out of the park.
|
I wasn't sure all the players were taking the game as seriously as they could of - but the managers did.
The thing that impressed me the most was wagner/gagne/smoltz were going to put their stuff against the AL's best - but the AL came out ahead. I thought some of the match-ups were really good. |

I lost a Delaware Subs Italian Sausage Submarine Sandwich on the game. Its always good to gamble only in tasty bets. -GH |
I would have liked to see Mora at bat. Otherwise it was a decent game.

(Ok, let's face it, I just like to stir things up.) :D |
I still find it amusing how all the "replacements" ended up with the big hits / were the important players.
Garret Anderson man, he starts as reserve, he ends up a starter and then MVP too. |
Good point, Blalock was pinch hitting, too.
|
Sen - well I am a huge Yankees fan - but if one team has to go indstead of the Yanks - let it be the Royals. I think they would be the emotional favorite for everyone in the country. They seem like a good, hard working bunch of guys. If they could slay goliath - then so be it.
They won't though. I mean really. They may come in third in the division after that. |
Liked the game, even w/o the "big" stars. The ending was great couldn't have written it better. Now the O's just need to pass the farken yankee's
/takes another puff |

That was the greatest joke I heard all season........remember this: http://www.powerpop.org/rally/ Bwhahahahahahahhaa |
I thought the GAME was great. It was exciting, competitive, and it was great to see young stars step up and perform in the clutch. Unfortunately, having such a great game is going to convince people that the "This time it counts" bullshit was a good idea. Already that doorknob McCarver won't shut up about how Selig came up with a great idea that will save baseball. It would ultimately have been much better for baseball if one side had blown out the other or the game had been rained out and then everyone would be calling for Selig's head. The only thing that will be good for the game is a new commissioner. Why mess with the All-Star Game? I saw nothing wrong with it. But if everyone thinks the players don't take it seriously and the fans don't watch it, THEN STOP PLAYING IT. Don't use it to screw with the World Series.
I'm a Yankee fan, and if the Yanks win it in seven this year, then all the small-market Yankee haters, starting with Bud, who right now are celebrating the revenue sharing agreement and thought this All-Star crap was a great way to give the NL a chance, will have no one to blame but themselves. -Mikey |
Best all-star game i ever saw. all professional sports who have all star game during season should switch to that format
|
Was a great game, still not too sure if it was the greatest ever, but i still think the game will eventually turn back into the charade it was for the last few years.
|
I think a USA vs. World format would be interesting for one year
|
That format has been used in the hockey all star game and that has even begun to grow stale lately. But it would be fun to see in baseball at least once.
