Ethics of the Kobe Bryant case

This whole situation is getting so crazy it's not even funny. From 'friends' of the girl going on Good Morning America and the like to the girl hiring her own PR firm, this is a media free for all. In fact, on one of the morning shows this morning, someone slipped and gave the girls first name. Now, her full name is floating around in some newsgroups. I'm not going to say the name because that is irresponsible, but it is available out there if you want to find it for some reason.

Now here's some questions that I would like to pose: Do you think that the media is handling this case responsibly? Do you think that the accuser's name should be released (remember she is an adult)? Is this whole thing being blown out of proportion?

I think that the media is doing a crappy job on this story. They are making a big deal about interviewing seemingly insignificant friends (some who support and don't support the girl), they fucked up and let some interviewee say her first name, and I even heard that they are going to the girl's house trying to scope it out. I just think that this is way too much and we should just wait for the DA's decision. If they charge Kobe, then let the public judgements fall where it may. For now, Kobe is innocent until proven guilty, and he deserves that given his flawless track record. But, the girl also deserves not to be identified and bothered as well.

It's your thread, goddfather, but this may get a better, more varied response in general discussion.

I heard about the appearance of those girls from my mother, of all people. SHE was upset about it. But the appearance reeks of the media using these two girls, and the girls using the media to get on t.v. At issue is their credibility, and they seem to have none. If they were truely friends, they wouldn't be on t.v. And they have no information to provide about the case.

It's the media tripping over itself to air something. The girls' name? It shouldn't be released, but let's face it, if you live in her area you know who is the accuser. Anyone from outside the area, who the hell cares what her name is.

We'll see how this thing plays out. The media will play a HUGE role, being fed information from Bryant's camp as well as from the PR people her family seems to have hired. What we see will largely ge what pieces the media picks out.

The media never handles situations correctly when someone of importance is involved. If you ask me there is no winning anymore. Kobe loses sentence reduced because he is a celeb, he wins and his reputation is tarnished just because of the accusation. Now that is not right.

Re: Ethics of the Kobe Bryant case

You said it best, media free for all.

That's exactly what is it.

The bad part is, she doesn't even get to decide to press charges or not. She could completely opt out and not want, and in the wonderful state of Colorado, the DA can go forth with it anyway. It's completely up to the DA.

I think this whole thing is a big joke, the media is absolutley irresponsible. Battering and destroying Kobes image before he's even a criminal.

The bad part is, with her name in the public now because of her so called "friends' she's open to the same battering if she comes out and says she lied. It's a double edged sword now.

It's THE MEDIA!! THE MEDIA is a fucking joke. Do you think they actually give a flying rat fuck about anyone but their precious ratings and the I can top you one better attitude.

They will spin this until it is spun into some nice fine silk.

Get the ratings now and pay the lawsuits latter

FOX NEWS

Gretta Van Sumbag: Well I have here Jimmy Dickwad who just happened to be coming out of the shower 3 floors below Kobes room when the alleged sexual assault, and also joining us is Phil Fulocrap an attorney who handled a toe stubbing lawsuit with the Hotel where th sexual assault took place.

Greta: Mr. Dikwad tell us what did you hear??

Dikwad: Well Greta I was just coming out of the shower when I heard the theme from Different Strokes playing on the TV.

Greta: Did you hear any screaming?

Dikwad: No not really, but I did see Kobe as he was getting into a car two days before the incident.

Greta: So he was getting into a car with a girl?

Dikwad: I don't know if I saw a girl.

Greta: SO you think he did this?

Dikwad: Yea....I did see him get into the car.

Greta: I see..I see

Greta: Mr.Fulocrap how do you think this will be tried in court and will Kobe get a fair trial?

Fulocrap: Well Greta, I would first like to thank you for asking me to be on your show, and I would also like to say......GO BUFFALOS..WHoooooo Hoooooooooooooo!

Greta: So you think he did it??

Fulocrap: To be honest Greta I think he may or may have not done this

Greta: Hmmmmmmm interesting observation.

The media is a joke this day in age, and you are GUILTY...GUILTY....AND GUILTY.....until they say you're innocent or the ratings get bad.

Using the media does work both ways, however.

Did you watch the ESPY's last nite? Notice how EVERY time they showed Kobe he had his arm around his wife? Tell me Kobe's handlers didn't whisper into his ear about how that might be a good idea.
