Pakistan WAS my favourite team at a time when Wasim Akram, Imran Khan and Waqar Younis, along with a swag of other pakistani legends played in the late 90's.
Since those days pakistan has been continuously plagued by corruption and match fixing allegations. the most recent being a few months ago when a few of the players were caught in a sting operation by the extremely classy UK paper, the News of the World. Pakistan can kiss my ass when it comes to getting my support from now on in. all those times i supported them and they thank me by filling their pockets with money while i sit there wondering why their top order collapsed or why theres been 3 wide balls and a no-ball bowled in an over. screw you pakistan. im going for your arch-enemy India this year. the aussies are in with a chance, but are plagued by injuries of late and are missing Mr Cricket himself. They still have a solid 1-day side, coupled with the fact that they just trounced the pommies 6-1 ( or was that 7-1...i lost count), so dont discount them just yet. should the aussies take out the world cup, they'd become the first team in history to three-peat. if the aussies an indians end up in the final, i may well switch teams and barrack for the aussies in the hope of seeing history.

You'd have to say India are favourites.
Limited Overs stuff is fun to watch, but it isnt really cricket, is it? ---------- Post added at 06:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ---------- Quote:
Spot fixing is very widespread. Matt Le Tissier (for example) admitted in his auto biography betting on the time of the first throw in and then desparetly running around from the whistle trying to get hold of the ball so he could put it out of play... happens all the time and most players dont consider it cheating (cheating the bookies obviously doesnt count in their minds...)

SF are you telling me that pakistan have never been emroiled in match fixing allegations?
think Salim Malik. the customary pakistani batting collapse and irregular batting and fielding patterns only tell me one thing. Pakistan aint worth shit. i think you're downplaying 1 day internationals because you won The Ashes but got a whooping in the 1 dayers. If it was the other way around i doubt you'd be saying that.

Well, I like SAfrica's chances this WC - we have a really good bowling lineup and deep batting squad, although the fieldwork hasn't been up to our usual standard. But as usual I expect we will be our own worst enemies. My only concern is that we should have given our spinners more game time running up to the WC, but we'll see.

There are no match fixing allegations involving the recent tour of England.
And no, to be honest, I dont think much of one day cricket. England are 20/20 World Champions remember... Of course I'd like England to do well, I would put them 4th favourites maybe... But I'd rather win any test series over any one day series. Test match cricket is cricket in its pure form.

This is off topic, but I'd suggest people shouldn't be able to bet on no ball "x" in over "y". The fact that this option exists just opens up cricket for spot fixing. IMO, this is just the thin edge of the wedge - it is a bad start.
Back to the world cup - I think Australia is unlikely - our batting is prone to collapse (as it did in both warm up games) and the bowling looks ordinary - especially with Krejza as the only serious spinner. He is just too inconsistent. If I was a betting man, the money would be on India - strong batting line up, good spinners and home conditions.

And I agree completely on spot betting. Should be illegal.
