Teams with the most wasted talent
Okay what do you guys think of this one. This is the thread where you list all the teams that have tried to "buy" themselves a championship and failed miserably. All that talent just doesn't seem to work together or injuries, or what have you.
My list: NY Yankees 2002 Portland Trailblazers for about 4 years now NY Knicks for about 3 years now The Michigan "Fab Five" (okay maybe that's a bit of a stretch) Dallas Mavericks for about 3 years C'mon lets see some more... |

Surely the New York Rangers.
I kinda disagree with the Rangers cause they have no pitching, and never did. But theres alot of firepower there. How about the Clippers? Every year people say its their year, they have good talent, and not even a playoff birth. |

How much is the New York Rangers payroll again? $76 million?
And that, folks, is why I love the sport of hockey so much. Even if you dump a boatload of money into a team, there's no guarantee of success. The Red Wings last year just happened to be the exception to the rule.

The Rangers since their last Stanley Cup.
The have to rebuilt the entire team, release all the old and/or ineffective players, and try to build a team that both quick and offensive minded. First thing they have to do is release Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Eric Lindros, and Mike Richter. |

Clippers for sure.. holy shit. Andre Miller, Elton Brand, Olowokandi, and Lamar Odom, and they still finished last in the west.

Yeah, the Blazers really just can't seem to bring all the chips together, the team has so much talent and they just can't seem to take it to the next level. Its a shame.

Rangers are by far the prime example of spending way too much money and getting nothing in return. The Dolphins are up there too, spending a ton of money on Ricky Williams and convincing Cris Carter to come out of retirement, and for what, to miss the playoffs. I'd love to see the Seau trade blow up on their face as well

NY Rangers take the cake on that one. They keep on snatching up players that do just fine where they are, and are usually the main draw for all the crowds in those cities... most of the teams that get rid of these players are just trying to save money.
If you think about it though, when they get rid of those players, less people will go to see the superstar talent... not to mention those teams that have to let these players go are usually worse, winning less games... therefore getting less ticket sales. One wonders in the long run just how much money they save by getting rid of them. I don't know too much about other sports... but it seems to me like Anna Kornikova is sort of wasted "talent" as well... I mean, if she was better, we'd get to see that ass a great deal more in the top matches!! |

I'm hating on self because he left Dude. We gotta team here at U of I.
How can people say the braves as wasted talent? They have won the NL east like 11 times in a row! Just because you don't win the world series doesn't mean your seaon was a bust folks.

add this yr's texas a&m team to that list.
they had 6 or 7 draft picks going this yr, and what did they do w/ all that talent? a 6-6 season.
