Bike Trainer (how to ride your bike inside)
Hi,
I've been looking for a way to ride my bike inside the house to train my legs and I need some feedback. I did some research and found that bike trainers would be what I need. I tried a few stores in town and after talking to the guys and trying a few, I'm set on getting a fluid trainer. (as opposed to magnetic or wind). My question for the people of TFP was this: Have you ever tried one, have you ever bought one, if so, what brands, do you recommend it, how real was it? I've seen the CycleOps JetFluidPro in a few stores including Ebay. I just need to know if i'm wasting my money or making a good move.

I've had two indoor trainers over the years and would definitely recommend the CycleOps Fluid Pro. If your use to riding outdoors this will give you the best real -world resistance without breaking the bank. My first trainer was a Kurt Kinetic model and I did like it but it was magnetic and I quick grew bored with the feel of the ride.
Couple of points -you need something to motivate you to ride indoors, music, movies something to distract as you get bored quick or at least I do. I use my laptop beside me to watch movies for longer indoor rides. -a nice fan to keep the air moving around you and help keep you cool. -depending on where your putting the trainer you'll need a mat to either calm vibrations if your on a wood floor and to collect all the sweat that is going to drip off you. -the trainer can be hard on your rear tire so make sure your not on really nice carpet as you'll get little bits of rubber coming off over time. Make sure to check for wear before you ride outdoors if you've been on the trainer all winter...etc. I dread riding the trainer but when an outdoor ride is not possible there is nothing better to burn off some energy and keep the legs fresh. Tire wear comment seconded. I know of some folks who get a cheap second tire. Use the one you bought for indoors, to keep your front and back at the same level of wear for when you head back outside.
Definitely get something to soak up the sweat, without the constant movement of air you'll feel like you're sweating buckets - you're sweating the same amount it just isn't evaporating as effectively because you're stationary.

Great advice guys. I'm glad no one said to NOT get one so it's set. Now to find the cheapest price for it! haha. Stupid shipping.
Found this guy on Ebay: CycleOps JetFluid Pro Trainers Cyclops Trainer New NIB on eBay.ca (item 220570429037 end time 10-Apr-10 17:54:27 EDT) but the shipping is at 76$ in canada.

The other places in town never got back to me on prices. So it will have to be online. If anyone knows of a great website to order the Cycleops Jet Fluid pro trainer from, let me know! has to ship to canada. Looking for less than 380 if possible. I would rather order from a reputable place than Ebay but i might have to do it.
