Lance Armstrong = Hero
he·ro
n. 1. In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods. 2. A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life: soldiers and nurses who were heroes in an unpopular war. I don't think much needs to be explained here. |
Well for we folks who dont pay attention to the guy.. why dont you explain anyways?
|
well, he's a cancer survivor.
and he's from AUSTIN! |
I was watching Sportscenter this weekend and they had a segment on him. Apparently he was a real jackass prior to being diagnosed with cancer. A real prima donna.
A hero, I don't know. I would say more like an inspiration. |
Lance was cocky, an ass, whatever in the past, a guy who grew up without any real male role model. So who cares, who wasnt when they were young? He was apparently a womanizer as well. So? He has/was forced to mature/d and grown seemingly to be a "pretty good guy"-who really knows?- who NOW goes out of his way to inspire and encourage those stricken with cancer. I cant see ANYTHING wrong with that. He is a here to many. A great cyclist and champion to me.

Hell yeah, get em Lance!!!!
I think hes one of the few true hero athletes. |
While I personally think that our society uses the term hero much too frequently, I think that Armstrong is a very impressive story of perseverence and courage. I follow his progress and cheer him on.

He's still pretty cocky though. Been watching the tour for a couple years, and since he's a bit of a media darling he gets interviewed a lot. I've never heard him complement another rider before. Most guys, if they get beat in a stage they'll say something like, 'Yeah, I wasn't feeling great, but Bobby had a great ride today.' Lance on the other hand, 'They are not good. I was feeling crappy and I think my bike was broken.'
paraphrasing slightly. That said, A. Cancer survivor B. 4 times in a row Tour de France winner C. Won last year by what, 35 minutes overall or something stupid like that? Guy is phenomenal. He's got the stuff to back up the arrogance I guess. From what I've seen, he's just not classy when it comes to other riders. |
Why would someone compliment the French? All they do it treat Lance like an asshole, as they do to most other people.
And, he didn't seem like a jackass in the last segement. If someone crashed their bike in front of me while I was wearing the yellow jersey, I would have been pissed off. Instead of calling the guy an idiot, he was rather complimentary and offering excuses for the fellow's lack of common sense. Andrew. |
