I'm not a fair weather fan, and I'll proudly support my team even when they are shit. For fucks sake I'm a Red Sox fan. I've been through everything.
Anyway, I just don't know what it is with Ovechkin. It's like he gets to the playoffs and expects people to just let him and his team skate pretty. Look at how washington played in this series. They didn't grind, they didn't finish hits, they didn't go for the ugly goals and it cost them. I'm only sad that the Caps got bounced because I wanted to see Cindy Crossberry get railed by the killer B's. and we won't have a Montreal/Vancouver final because A. Bettman is going to make sure his golden boy makes the finals now that Ovie is out. and B. if the Red Wings have found their game and game 7 was an indicator, they'll be back in the finals :D |
Well, the ref gave the Caps all the chances they could get, gives the Habs a questionable high sticking call simply because of the now famous head toss the pussies in the NHL seem to like so much. They should get rid of Boudreau, because well I can't stand the fat fuck and he's probably going to stroke out during a game at some point.
I so hope the Pens get knocked out next round, I hate Bettman and his golden boy, if he wasn't such a pussy and didn't look to the ref for the call everytime someone touched, naw I still wouldn't like the kid, I can respect his abilities, but as a player, a Canadian player, he's more European than anything. |
Watching the Wings/Sharks game ..
some of the worst officiating I've seen EVER. Franzen gets a high stick to the face, goes down, a sharks player goes down and Franzen gets called for tripping and Franzen has blood coming down his face. So the sharks should have had a 4 minute penalty and it's instead a 2 minute power play. Then Setaguchi embellishes and gets nothing but a call. Fucking lame. |
the replay for that was really hard to follow, but i think Frantzen caused the trip and the high stick.
The Setaguchi fall... wow what a dive. |
I didn't see anything in the replay that would indicate that Franzen caused the high stick. Maybe it's my bias showing, but I've seen weaker high sticks called all season.
Setaguchi took a page out of Cindy Crosberry's book on that dive. |
holy christ.
the overtime period in the Bruins/Flyers game was fantastic. Probably the best OT I've ever seen. |
Wow what a series between Montreal and Pittsburgh. I don't think I've ever seen an NHL team in so many exciting games as the Canadiens this post-season. They're just somehow always able to put together ridiculous scoring plays together against a backdrop of outrageous saves by Halak. I have a feeling I might have to take a roadtrip down to Montreal for this next series... that place is craaaazy.
|
One thing: Go Habs!
|
Hats off to the habs (even though they wooped on my pens). I hope Pittsburgh FINALLY gets rid of Fluery. I have never liked him, he is too inconsistant. Halak is unfreakingbelievable! The man is everywhere.
Sydney Crosby played like a raging wet pussy this hole series. One goal in 7 games...are you kidding me? |

So, tonight. Flyers & Bruins. Can the Flyers make history by completing a come from behind series win? You can watch it all here on a live stream: CBC.ca Video |
Anybody else reminded of 1986 and 93 when it comes to the Habs?
The one down note, though, is that asshats riot here in Montreal everytime we do well in the playoffs. I live in Montreal, and love it, but we do not need this. It is like oldtime British soccer (football) hooliganism, folks are so blase about cars set on fire, shop windows smashed, etc......... I know it is only an underwhwelming minority who riot, but still. Our municipal buses display Go Habs Go messages instead of the route numbers. If you don't live here, you have no idea how hockey mad this city is. Go Habs Go. |
At least your city has a team that is doing something exciting.
Enjoy the ride! |

Well congrats to the Flyers they pulled off some history last night!
I don't even know how to comment on the epic, massive and complete failure the Bruins managed to pull off last night. Boston, New England sports has a pretty long history of surreal, disturbing, gut wrenching, kicked in the balls sports moments (Bucky Dent, 79 Bruins, Buckner, the 85 Pats, Aaron Boone, the 07 Pats, the Scott Walker goal off the top of my head) and yet somehow last night the Boston Bruins failed in such a spectacular way they may have cemented themselves on the very top of that list. Really if you've lived through and grown up with these teams you'd understand exactly how amazing and...somehow fascinating that achievement is. Not only do they blow a 3-0 series lead (only the 4th team in history to do so) they manage to blow a game 7, 3-0 lead and give up the winning goal on a too many men on the ice penalty (shades of the 79 Bruins...the Don Cherry Curse lives on)...are they kidding? You'd think they sat down and tried to figure out exactly how to make the loss sting in the worst possible way and then multiplied it by a million. Seriously there is so much failure packed into one night my brain is spinning just trying to get it all straight. Wow. Anyway how about an Eastern Conference Final between the number 7 and 8 seeds, that's pretty bizarre. Stranger still the possibility exists for a Stanley Cup Playoff between number 8 in the East and number 1 in the West. Wild! You just have to love hockey! |

:lol::lol: too funny man! Check this out: Looks like history just repeated itself again much to the chagrin of Boston fans.. I must say though that I don't agree with the call. I didn't feel it was egregious enough to warrant a penalty considering it was late in the third period in a tied Game 7 . (was it Lucic?) jumped on the ice for a second or two then skated back, he was nowhere near the play. I can't imagine how tough it'd be to have to go through two consecutive years in a row where your team gets scammed out of the playoffs (last year with Scott Walker was just ridiculous)... |
HA! That video is fantastic! I was watching at a bar last night and haven't seen the replay yet so I missed exactly how the too many men unfolded, I need to go look at that. But yeah I agree with you although I suppose rules are rules...you just wish they'd miss calls like these on occasion.
It gets worse though (coupled with this year and last year) the previous year was pretty bad to. Underdogs coming in against the Habs, fighting back to force a game 7...and then getting blown out 5-0...Seriously if this was a Hollywood script it would be rejected for being too corny. Hockey: You just can't make this stuff up. Who are you pulling for in the finals Ideofunk? |
I'd like to see a Montreal - Chicago final.
But the first game is on Sunday afternoon. Kind of a crappy time for televised hockey - middle of Sunday. At least there's an evening game as well, which will be easier to catch. |
It's an NBC game, what can you expect from a network who voluntarily gets Pierre McGuire to be part of their braodcast team.

I hope the Habs win if only to justify the Smurfs; Cammalleri, Gionta, and Gomez. Those guys are players, no matter how small! By the by, I was always judged by my size too. It just so happens I was six foot one, 200, when I was 18. |

Talk about screwing around with a schedule. AND there was no game on Saturday night. I know I'm complaining a lot, but there are some things that should be dependable... |
Okay, it's set. Philly & Chicago. Are we ready for the finals of the sweetest sport? I say Blackhawks in 6 games. (what do I know eh? my op is an embarrasment!)

I don't know quite what to make of the 'new' Flyers. They seem so mellow and level-headed compared to the Flyers I know and love (to hate). They also have that goaltender who managed a shut-out 4 of his last 8 games (full credit to the defensemen) as well as allowing a goal or less in 7 of the last 10 (10 games takes you back to game 4 in the Boston series). Could be interesting. |
I think I'm going on Saturday. I'll post pics if I can.
|
Oh Jazz, I hate you.
It has been so long since the Blackhawks made it this far (18 years!) that I didn't realize the tickets would be sold before the games were set (unlike baseball, where tickets are sold only after the teams are determined and games are set). I was all set to buy tickets (the cheapest were only $55), but when I started to look into it I found out they were already sold out before I thought they'd even go on sale! I'm so bummed :( |
it's now a best of 3 series, with the Blackhawks in the lead. I think the Leighton will start in goal in game 6. But 40 goals in 5 games in this series!
|
It has been a pretty amazing series, but I'm looking forward to it ending with a Blackhawk victory on Wednesday ;)
|
And you get your wish!
Congratulations Chicago & the Blackhawks for an amazing series and first Championship in 49 years! http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/u...695081gm-a.jpg Blackhawks end 49-year Stanley Cup drought |
Oh, I knew I missed something. That's what I get for going to bed early.
Go Blackhawks. |

2 Attachment(s)
These were taken around 7 am this morning outside of the Pony Bar on Belmont, not that far from my house. If I'd known they were going to be there, I probably would have been a little later to work than I already was.
The Hawks landed around 4 this morning and were saluted by a couple of firetrucks at O'Hare that sprayed the plane. Toews stepped off first with the Cup, and they all continued partying. Attachment 22568 Attachment 22569 The over/under for blowjobs received by Kane is currently 7. He's been known to step out of bars and say "who wants to suck Patrick Kane's dick?!" so my money is on the over. I considered punching my cabby last night in Kane's honor but thought better of it. |
Yeah, Kane's a douche but he's our douche. BTW, that pic is awesome, I used to live 2 blocks from there. That's my old Walgreens across the street from the bottom pic, and my dentist is on that block. I had no idea though that the Hawks hang out there. Did you take those?
Anyways, that was by far the least awesome conceivable way to score an OT goal to win the Stanley Cup, what with nobody even noticing it went in and all. On the other hand, as a Chicagoan I will take any excuse to win a championship. Here's hoping the Cubs win on a disputed home run call that requires video review to make official or something. |
Kane is a loveable douche. Those pics are fan-fucking-tastic. Isn't that cup amazing? You all should just make a trip to the Hall of Fame to see the display of hardware, including the original cup. It will bring a tear to your eyes.
|
No, I didn't take them. I was at the sister bar to the Pony (Lottie's) last night and know a bunch of folks from there. The owner of Lottie's (and an investor in the Pony) is a friend of friend, and that's how I got these pictures.
When it went in, there was one guy in the whole bar that knew it immediately. He threw his hands up in the air and starts screaming while the rest of us wondered what just happened. The celebration was on about a 3 second delay. I still have no idea how that guy knew it went it since it's hard to tell even on a replay. guy44, you never told us that Ustwo is your dentist. |
Hey, Chicago fans! Congrats.
And don't forget to thank your Canadian players (more than half the roster). ;) |

Just found out I won't be able to make it to the parade/rally tomorrow. Bummed about that, but still excited that THE STANLEY CUP IS IN CHICAGO! :D
