EPL starts in 9 hours!!!!!
i'm excited....i got into the european soccer craze at the middle of last year and have enjoyed the hell out of it. i've got the fox soccer channel and watch as much as i can. i enjoy watching the MLS and of course USA soccer, but for some reason i'm really stoked about this years EPL. I don't really have a vested interest in any team other than Hull which i thought was a great story of premier league survival last year and they just signed Jozy Altidore, who i think has some real upside!
i know dempsey is with fulham and howard is with everton, but those are popular teams and i like rooting for the little guys. there are a couple of other americans over there jonathan spector, i believe, and some others, but i don't see them getting much playing time. anyways, i'm just excited and was wondering who else is, what's your team, and why???? |

So this is, like, that football-for-wussy-Euros thing, right?
Had to get it out of the way I'll say this, as an American who has never been a huge soccer fan: I went to the A.C. Milan-Chelsea match that was here in Baltimore a couple weeks ago (my dad's boss is English and got a bunch of ticket, but I would have tried to go anyway), and I really enjoyed the game. Even got to see local kid Oguchi Onyewu in the game for Milan. Yet another crack in my Anti-Soccer armor Might have to start paying some attention to EPL.

This season is going to be an interesting one. United are weak to begin the season, Liverpool are going to struggle to maintain the run they had last year, Arsenal will fall out of the big four if not careful..and City.. fucking City may join the big four with all the money they've spent.. I think they aren't champion quality yet..but I'd rather not see them in the big four either. Look for United, Liverpool and Chelscum to be in a fight to the finish.
There are already a bunch of storylines at play and they are going to get better. Going to start an official EPL thread in a bit. We'll keep track of everything in there. DJ: yeah, when you actually watch European football it's a bit easier to enjoy. American "soccer" is so watered down and has such lack of class that it's easy to see how more Americans aren't interested in the sport. |
