Ex-NFL QB McNair found shot to death in condo by FOXSports.com Updated: July 4, 2009, 5:02 PM EDT Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was found shot to death Saturday, multiple media outlets reported. A woman was also found shot to death with McNair in a Nashville condominium in an apparent double homicide. A public information officer with the Nashville police, Don Aaron, confirmed the death. McNair played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans franchise and then spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and was the Co-AP NFL MVP in 2003. ...................... I agree - this came from nowhere. Shit happens, I guess, but it is always a shock.

It sounds like the woman was his girlfriend. He's technically married, but no clue if he was going through a separation or divorce. Regardless, it's sad to see. I am not a Titans or Ravens fan, but I always enjoyed watching McNair play, and he was a tough dude for a QB.

Terrible and sad. He has a lot of family, and specifically children, left behind. McNair was a great college and NFL QB. I rooted hard against him when he was a rival of the Ravens, and cheered him just as hard when he led us to the most regular season wins in franchise history. I actually traveled to Nashville for the game when the Ravens played there in the playoffs last season, and he made a guest appearance at a local bar. From the reports I am reading, everybody speaks highly of him. I realize he has been in some sticky situations legally in the past, but death by firearm is tragic.

Hard to believe...I came into TFP to read up on some tech stuff and stumble on this news.
So disgustingly sad, I have followed his career from draft day on. The news sources are being careful about jumping to conclusions--but basically implying that the girl may have shot him and then herself. That is the way it appears right now. Just awful any way it turns out. |

Saw this news right before bed last night. Still processing it.
I'm waiting for some TV preacher to announce this (number celeb deaths) is a sign from God that the end is coming... Oh, right and to save yourself you should send them money.

Yeah if they're not seeking suspects I suspect they think they know what happened.
Wonder if there's a note?

I heard about this on the radio late last night, and it was so jarring to hear this revelation, I didn't know how to process it.
I guess since I am at a loss for words right now, I'm glad kramus had the wherewithal to sum up a good overview of his career, and perhaps utter the same thought process I have at the moment in hearing the breaking news of the tragedy. Quote:

Still missing full details as the investigation is obviously ongoing but....
The girl (20 years old) was reportedly a girlfriend of his, they had met a few months ago while she was working at a local Dave and Busters (game/food joint) her family is stating that McNair was going to marry her, but nothing official on this or if him and his wife had been having marital problems. He bought a Cadillac Escalade in both their names that she was pulled over in while intoxicated last week, McNair was in the car but let go at the time while she was detained, claiming she was high, not drunk. She purchased the firearm last week that was found at the scene of the crime but reports are still out that will determine if she killed herself or someone else shot her. McNair was found with 4 gunshots to his body and head while she was found with one single shot to the head that was administered at close range. I just summed up what is out there to this point rather than linking to a bunch of articles or updates for everyone to read. I have always been a McNair fan and was actually kinda surprised to see him on Pros V. Joes this past season. They usually get older guys who have been out of the league quite a while but it was nice to see a guy like McNair on there.

Wow, I just came across the story of what police details have been released about the occurrence. It's just pure cowardice.
Police: McNair shot dead in sleep by girlfriend By LUCAS L. JOHNSON II, Associated Press Writer >Link< NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Former NFL star Steve McNair(notes) was shot dead in his sleep last week by a 20-year-old girlfriend distraught about mounting financial problems and her belief that he was seeing someone else, police said Wednesday. Sahel Kazemi “was spinning out of control” when she shot McNair four times as he dozed on a sofa early Saturday, then turned the gun on herself, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said. ... “We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly,” Serpas said, though there was no indication she told anyone she planned to harm McNair. Serpas said detectives learned that Kazemi recently found out about another young woman she thought McNair was romantically involved with and had even followed that woman home, though she did not confront her. Serpas said police believe McNair was asleep when he was killed because there were no defensive wounds. After shooting McNair in the head, Kazemi apparently shot him twice in the chest before shooting him again in the head. Before shooting herself, she sat next to his body and “tried to stage it so she would fall in his lap,” Serpas said. She did, but her body slid to the floor and ended up at McNair’s feet. The gun was found underneath her. rest of article click to show
