NBA 09-10 Thread
The offseason has begun and the Lakers quickly swap Trevor Ariza for Ron Artest. I am sad to see Trevor go, especially considering his contributions down the stretch. However, you can't turn down Ron Artest when he wants to play for you for cheap. He's no longer about getting paid - he wants to win. He has mellowed out over the years and he is a vicious competitor. Adding Artest over Ariza gives the Lakers better scoring, better man-to-man defense and a bigger body. Artest might not be as athletic or sneaky as Ariza, but he is also more consistent and experienced.

Looks to be a fun off-season. Hedo to the Blazers? Ariza to the Rockets? Lots of stuff going on. Should open up league fun for the next few weeks. Maybe it is because I'm paying more attention than I have in years, but it sure seems like there is a lot of action this year.

I still wish the NBA would do a hard salary cap like the NFL does. The Lakers should own this year as they have an incredible amount of talent at very good prices. At the same time the Jazz need to clear out some payroll because they are grossly overpaying for their talent (or lack thereof).

cav's made big noise with shaq, but landing leon powe was even bigger if you ask me in terms of talent. Powe is hurt and out till february, but when he was coming in for an injured garnett last year, he averaged 30 and 11 over about a dozen games.
then there's orlando, who get back a jameer nelson and traded garbage for vince carter. if VC has anything left in the tank, they should be sick all year. in the west, i'm surprised people aren't mentioning the clippers. they gave up randolph, but still have camby and kaman... and then added the #1 pick griffin who tore up summer league, and still have eric gordon and baron davis. thats a crazy starting 5. overall, i'd say the east is starting to match up better with the west.. and the west contenders include some new teams this year like the aforementioned clipps and portland.

Leon Powe didn't average it. He did it in one game, against the grizzlies. And he is recovering from a simultaneous ACL tear (his second major knee injury) and microfracture. As a celtics fan, I like the guy. But, unfortunately, I doubt he will be anywhere near the player he was in the past, given how his explosiveness was so important given his lack of height.
Personally, I still like the celtics in the east. They weren't that far out of contention last year, and this year they will have Garnett back, a decent back up C in Sheed, and finally someone to back up Pierce at the 3. In the east, I think the lakers are still the team to beat but I think Ariza at this point was a better fit than Artest. |

So I don't usually watch BB, its just not my cup of tea, and honestly watching last games reminded me why. 54 free throws? Calling a foul for roughly every minute of game play...I don't know that seems a bit excessive to me. Every time it looked like something interesting might happen a whistle blows and they line up for free baskets, it killed the flow of the game and took away all the drama in my opinion. I always thought the NFL was excessive with the amount of fouls they called in a game, they've got nothing on the NBA.
Sorry don't mean to dump all over a sport I know a lot of people really love, I guess its just not for me.

Lakers won the final game 7 in Los Angeles by a score of 83-79, winning the championship 4 games to 3. Kobe got his 5th ring, waving "5" to the crowd like Michael Jordan used to do. Artest thanked his psychiatrist on live tv...awesome.
