Both the Angels and the Red Sox are .500 vs. The Evil Empire this season, (Sox 9-9, Halos 5-5) so no clear advantage there. The Halos under Mike Scioscia have the best record in the MLB vs. the Yankees. So while Boston is tough on the Angels, the Angels are tough on the Yankees.

Ugh, the suspence is killing me. Two of the series will have 2 games done before the Angels & Red Sox even start game 1 of theirs...

I think the shut out will just make it harder for the Angels to beat the Red Sox, because the Red Sox know they are better than that. This will just fuel them to want to win even more.

That second game was a heartbreaker for the Twins. Just left too many stranded runners and then Nathan coughed one up in a critical situ.

I'm more than pissed at the yankees result..

and I'm becoming more aggravated by Boston's quiet bats as this 2nd game goes on.

This isn't to take anything away from Lackey, but for the past however many games, it seems like the Red Sox lose that killer instinct at the plate. They become TOO patient and try to play long ball instead of using their natural hitting ability take the game over.

Yep. That's one of the main reasons why I hate the damn Yankees. When the umps give them a call they do deserve, and they disagree, they openly act all huffy and entitled and gripe eye-ball to eye-ball at the umps and from the dugout. They are the consummate examples of poor sportsmanship.

But breaks are an integral part of the game. The Universe has a way of equalling them out...

I'm still stunned by how bad Papelbon got roughed up. I think most of the nation is.

Well, I guess Gardy will be vomiting all night.

Base-running errors cost the Twins dearly. I thought that Nightmare Ninth would never end, what with all the pitching changes. But then it occurred to me that maybe Gardy was intentionally dragging it out to let Sandman sit extra long on the NY bench. But in the end the Twins still go home. Guess I will see them in Ft Myers in the Spring 2010.

Oh, I don't hate the franchise or even some of the truly great players of its past. I am talking about the poor attitude and poor sportsmanship that many of their players in the last 10-12 years display. Bernie, Jorge, A-fraud. Especially the way they bark at the umps and intentionally try to hurt people while running the base paths. I have no respect for them. They may be winners, but they are jerks and losers.

Here's hoping the Angels kick their sorry asses. And if they don't, here's hoping they are totally humiliated in the World Series.

If you get things handed to you, the whole "great teams find ways to win" thing is irrelevant. An honest fan would be able to admit it.

On a related note, here are two players' playoff stats.

Player A: 42 games, 151 at-bats, 40 hits, 7 homers, 19 rbi, .265 batting
Player B: 42 games, 158 at-bats, 46 hits, 9 homers, 25 rbi, .291 batting

A Red Sox fan criticizing a Yankee fan for high payroll. Pot meet kettle. This is exactly why I got tired of Boston after they won in 2004. They started going around thinking they were somehow different from the Yankees. Both teams outspend every other team in the league. The fact that the Yankees take it a couple of steps further doesn't mean the Sox aren't spending as much as they can.

As for Papelbon, you can't be perfect forever. He threw 26 scoreless postseason innings before he finally coughed one up. Even Mariano Rivera lost a playoff game.

i did admit the ump blew the call but they would've just bunted him over to third baseball 101 and whos to say they were going to bring him home again be honest the percentages to score with a basesloaded are higher than to score with a man on third or second for that matter so all we are left with is a big fat WHAT IF and you got to take advantages of all your breaks fair or not Dont get me wrong would've happened to the yankees i'll be fucking pissed of but it didn't so tuff

As to A and B reggie was horrible during the post season he was only great during the world series. ALDS ALCS stats should be seperated from world series stats example mickey mantle has 18 world series homers tied to jeters18 post season homers difference mickeys times ALDS ALCS didnt exist

The Sox could spend more if they wanted too, the difference is that Boston actually tries to cultivate their young players and their farm system. While the yankees have been better in that regard, there are only a handful of teams that cultivate position players and pitchers out of their farm system as well as Boston does. Pedroia and Youk have decent money contracts now, but Papelbon and Ellsbury don't.

It doesn't matter what the yankees do, I'm still going to hate them forever

Yeah, and the point is, anybody that follows baseball beyond the casual level knows that the Yankees (Steinbrenners) have established a reputation for over-spending to bring in big names for the sole purpose of buying / creating an instant "team" rather than patiently cultivating one. The practice has earned them the contempt of serious baseball fans for years.

Not saying they are the only ones who do so, but their notoriety for doing so is well-documented.

That is the one serious you redsox have that's not much of a history you want history look up 1995 thru 2009 see who owns who that's history what you want to do nip pick. IS it just me or has the umpiring gone seriously south late in the year. Being a Rockies fan ( in the stands for all the Denver based games ) the umping was not as good as my sons JV games this last spring. numerous blatant missed calls some even in the Rox favor (but not many) I didn't get to watch a lot of the other series ,but the noise has been much louder than in the past. I also wonder the selection process for umps. I loved Bob Davidson as a radio guy while on sabbatical from MLB, but he was absolutely ridiculous in game 2 in Philly behind the plate.. groovers were balls and 6 inches off the plate were called strikes. What a joke. I knew the networks wanted big market teams , they will get their wish. No umpiring didn't cost the Rox the series, lousy clutch hitting and inability to close did, but with three 1 run games it doesn't take much to skew a series. Go Angels, since I don't much like any of the remaining options and for goodness sakes find some decent umps they can't ALL suck .......can they?

How that dropped ball didn't count as an unearned run baffles me. Maybe because nobody actually made a play for the ball? As soon as that happened, I was pretty sure they were going to lose that game.

I'm sure Scioscia read them the riot act in the clubhouse after the game. The team usually steps it up after beating themselves like that.

Reminds me of how they usually played the Red Sox in postseasons past. I guess the glimmer of hope is that the Skanks didn't exactly light up the scoreboard eather despite the horrible Halo defense. Mister Coaster Big & Brassy Location: The "Canyon"	How that dropped ball didn't count as an unearned run baffles me. Maybe because nobody actually made a play for the ball? As soon as that happened, I was pretty sure they were going to lose that game. I'm sure Scioscia read them the riot act in the clubhouse after the game.
