23 months for Vick
Which means he'll serve, what - 16? 12?
a couple of seasons at worse. I wonder if he'll be back and play at the top level? It seems like a pretty harsh sentence on animal cruelty charges, but I suppose I dont know the whole story or that much details of how much cruelty there was and how much he was personally responsible for.

What, for killing some dogs?
I mean - Im not in favour of hurting animals, and I wouldnt watch it myself - but 1,000's of cattle die every week to feed American's, whats the difference?

Most people don't keep cows as pets.
And those dogs died a needless death after being tortured into fighting animals. But in the end, it boils down to dogs are cute and cuddly. And I hope Vick never plays another down of football again.

well... I would never personally hurt any animal I didnt have to. Earlier this year there was myxi rabbit at work and I felt like I had to put it out its misery and I hated doing it.
But if I ask myself, genuinely, is one of these dogs MORE tortured than a battery hen... I dont know that it is. Of course, dogs are more sensitive and attractive animals (not in a sex way) than chickens - but I dont see why this should effect a legal judgment. I expected him to be punished, but to me a custodial sentence is a bit OTT.

He bankrolled the entire operation. That's why he received the sentence. It's sort of like going after the mob boss.
Sure cattle are killed, poultry is killed yada yada yada. However, those animals are bred specifically for the purpose of providing a food source. Dogs are not .. at least not here. When a man sprays down a dog with a water hose then electrocutes it.. there's something mentally wrong there. The black and white matter of this.. he broke the law, he serves his time. It's pretty simple. He'll probably play in the NFL again.. although I doubt it will be at quarterback or with a top contending team. Can you say Ravens?? |

Actually from what I heard, killing the dogs wasn't the issue, it was violating the dog fighting laws and gambling laws. Mind you I haven't read anything about this in quite a while.

Seriously though, assuming he serves most of this time, he wouldn't even be able to be reinstated until after the 2009 season. For the 2010 season, he'll be 30 and out of the league for three years. This isn't Ricky Williams, who only has to take the ball and run in one direction; he won't be starting ANYWHERE, and I honestly doubt he ever plays a regular-season down again.

Unless its changed recently you can eat beef in India but you do get prison time for purposefully causing harm to a cow.
I'm just going to guess that the beef would be imported.

from what I hear he also hung dogs and he kept beagles(sp?) that he would basically feed to the pit bulls. Inflicting that kind of pain on any animal is worthy a bullet to the head, in my opinion.

well lets not forget either he himself never handled any of the dogs he did sponsor for it but, we cant know exactly how much about it he knew. Also as of now he is indefinitely suspended so he'll have to appeal for reinstatement and that'll prolly take a third season so he prolly if at all wont be eligible till he's 30 or so and probably not in shape anymore. As much as i enjoyed watchin him play i doubt he'll comeback.
