well... first comment, I dont think they need to be hyping this up as much as they are.

Ricky Hatton may not have the pedigree of a true great, but he is a genuine world champion who has banged out everyone he has faced, and he and Mayweather shouldnt be reduced to this WWF style hype making to get people excited about this fight. This is a big fight between two genuine champions.

In my opinion PBF is the best fighter of his generation by some way... I give Ricky Hatton a punchers chance... but maybe it will be enough. As much as he seems to actually enjoy the bad boy persona, I admire PBF as a master boxer.. but I think Ricky will give him a hell of a fight. He is going to come out firing and is gonna keep coming forward and punching until he doesnt have the strength left to lift his arms.

My head says Mayweather by about 5 rounds.

My hearts says Ricky to win by TKO, round 8.

Ricky has to fight the best round of his life, almost EVERY round, to get to and beat a fighter with the skill and warrior instinct of Mayweather. If he can do it, he will hold a place in the history of boxing as one of the best of all time - certainly he will move to no. 2/3 in the greatest British fighters of all time if he does it (imo, behind Jimmy Wilde - who is unquestionably number 1, and Bob Fitzsimmons (if you count him as British rather than Kiwi), it will certainly place him in a different sphere to great great boxers like Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed, Nigel Benn, Lloyd Honneyhan, Randy Turpin, etc etc). PBF already has his place there.

PBF got his ass kicked when he fought Castillo the first time, and was handed a gift-wrapped decision by the judges. So pressure is the way to go if you want to beat him. He can't work all his dodgy footwork if you're up in his face.

Hatton's style is similar to Castillo's except he lacks the boxing skills of Castillo. But he's certainly got the pressure thing down.

It will be an interesting fight. I'd like to see PBF get his ass kicked just so he'd shut up for a little while. Roy Jones Jr. had that problem, too; self-worship. But then, once he got knocked the fuck out, he shut up really quick. You hardly hear a peep from him nowadays.

PBF is a great fighter in his prime, but he has not fought too many great fighters in their prime. Same story as Roy Jones, Jr. again.

Hopefully Hatton can at least put him to the test. Like Castillo did that first time.

Sidenote: Naseem Hamed? Great boxer? You've got to be kidding. First real fight he was in (vs. Barerra) he got beat up and then immediately faded away into nothingness.

prince naseem may not have been a great boxer, but his entertaining style kept the dollars rolling. thats what boxing is all about

Naz was one of the most exciting boxers in the world over a couple of years.

Its a shame he didnt have the character to come back from a defeat, but it isnt exactly fair to descrive Barrera as his first real opponent.

He beat Steve Robinson, Tom Johnson, Kevin Kelley, Wilfredo Vasquez, Wayne McCulluch, Cesar Soto - that's not exactly a list of mugs.

I don't know if Mayweather-De La Hoya was indicative of PBF as a whole, if it was, I am not all that impressed. I realize the guy has skills, but he is pompous and dodgy. Don't get me wrong he had the fight won, but it was an empty victory.

I've never seen Hatton fight, I get the impression from the HBO special that he is more a bruiser type. So noting that I can see him pressing it more, and where De La Hoya just didn't seem to have the stopping power, I think Hatton can do it. It comes out hard and swings true, can land some decent blows and keep Mayweather in front of him, I think it will be a close fight.

I'm not sure which way this will go but I get the feeling it might be a special fight.

BTW, I saw an interview they had with Lloyd Honeygan in the lead-up to this fight - talk about letting yourself go! This guy fought between 150-160 pounds, IIRC. He's now bigger than George Foreman! (And dresses like a pimp circa 1974, but that's neither here nor there)

Well, that fight wasn't so bad. Predictable, but at least Hatton kept up for a while there.

What a nice hook from Mayweather to end the fight. I can't stand Mayweather's fighting style ( I call it: turning your back to your opponent so they can't hit you), but that was a damn fine hook.

Yeah, very good fight. Hatton is relentless. Took some punches early but kept on coming. But the left hook at the end and the couple more that followed were way too much.

Hatton has some spirit. I laughed at his reaction to the point penalty after the behind the head shot.

Fight won't go down in history, but it was ok.

BTW - I watched it live using SOPCast, a client software that had access to four live feeds via P2P TV.

I'm not going to say anymore, however if you google some key phrases above you'll soon figure it out.

Hatton had no hope as far as I saw it.

PBF is an amazing technician, I was just surprised he didn't finish Hatton earlier.

Hatton is a great fighter, but a better brawler than a boxer.
