Bagwell bagging it.

Jeff Bagwell's current contract runs out in 2006 and now reports indicate that he'll retire when his deal expires.

Who was the better Astro? Bagwell or Craig Biggio???

I'd take Biggio over Bagwell. Biggio was more consitent and was of course a bigger threat on the bases. Bagwell *had* good power and was a good player but IMO Biggio was a better all around player.

Needing help for their stretch run in 1990, the Red Sox traded Jeff Bagwell (then the MVP of the AA league in which he played that season) to the Phillies on Aug. 31 for RP Larry Andersen.

Andersen pitched in 15 games for the Sox that year, went 0-0 with 1 save, and left for San Diego in the offseason. He retired after 4 more years (the last two of which were back in Philly) where he is now a broadcaster.

ESPN ranked it #2 of the top ten worst deadline deals in MLB history.

Bagwell is the better player in my opinion. I don't know if I believe that he will actually retire after this season either. He's only 35 and still can put up some big numbers. If he wants HOF consideration, I think he will need to stick it out a little longer.

ESPN also had an interesting question along these lines....(with thanks to MikeyChalupa for bringing up the trade)...

If the Red Sox hadn't traded Bagwell (who originally was a 3B in the minors), would he have taken over for Wade Boggs or Mo Vaughn???

Biggio's versatility is a plus. He went from Catcher to Second Base to the OF. But Bagwell's career numbers are more impressive. You expect that out of your 1B though. The production that Biggio gave from 2B was excellent.

You can't really say who was better because they go hand in hand. Biggio had the duribility and the versatility to play any position and get on base reliably, while he needed the power hitting of Bagwell to drive him home.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I do think, that when they are said and done, Bagwell will be considered the better player, cause we look so favorably on numbers. Biggio has good numbers, but many of his contributions were not numbers related.

Although this year could be promising.

Pedro + Manny + Nomar = $$

And fuck Clemens for turning his back on the team that made him what he is.

i hhhhaaaatttee biggio, that dick wears that huge plexiglass armor that makes him unafraid to crowd the plate and forces pitchers to not try and jam him, so he gets lots of hits. I take bagwell over biggio any day.

Yeah, i hate bonds as well, for more reasons than that, but since bonds wasn't mentioned yet, i decided not to think of him and give myself an aneurysm over him.
