Liverpool through to the Champion's League Final

We've booked our tickets to Athens for our 7th final and calmly await the winner of Man U and AC Milan.

I'm torn on who we should face: A rematch of the 2005 final with Milan or the all-English final with our old rivals from down the road in Manchester.

Whichever way it plays out, can't wait for the 23rd!

Glory's Sun 05-02-2007 04:35 AM

You're just scared to face your Manchester rivals :D

That was a great match though.

highthief 05-02-2007 05:00 AM

You know, there's pluses and minuses to whoever we face: Man U, on paper the favourites, but we all know that means squat in the CL. Milan, wanting revenge for 2005.

If it is the Mancs, whichever team comes up short won't hear the end of it from the opposing fans for the next 10 years!

pig 05-02-2007 06:05 AM

downloading the liverpool match right now; don't tell me who won :)

Glory's Sun 05-02-2007 06:39 AM

umm wouldn't you know who won already because of the thread title??

Ah won't it be nice to see all the scousers cry as we cheer and chant till morning :D

I think you need to get past Milan (where you've never won) before you start having delusions about beating us!

:)

Yeah yeah we have Milan first, but seeing as we handled them not too long ago, I think we'll be fine this time. It's time to beat them at Milan.. don't you think??

I think Utd vs. LP would be a much better matchup for the cup.

fatbob 05-02-2007 07:18 AM

forza milan! ;)

pig 05-02-2007 07:26 AM

gucci: apparently that little jokey joke didn't come off too well. alas, you are correct; i suspect i may have an inkling of the outcome to this one, nevertheless download it i shall.

heh sorry, I didn't catch the sarcasm/joke/whatever.

I'm still half asleep.

highthief 05-02-2007 02:07 PM

Betcha feel like going back to bed now, eh, guccilvr?

Glory's Sun 05-02-2007 05:44 PM

bah! I can't believe it. I thought for sure they would win this time. Goddamnit.

They played like pure shit. It's like they wanted Milan to have the ball.. they couldn't keep posession if it meant they could keep their first born son.

Bollocks.

At least there's still the league championship in our grasp.

Now the question highthief is.. do you want me to cheer for liverpool with the chance of a jinx or just pretend the final won't take place? :D

highthief 05-03-2007 02:54 AM

Ah, cheer for whoever you want! The only thing that ever seems to affect a Liverpool match is whether I put money on it! So, I will be refraining from gambling on the outcome, but am looking into flights to Athens from Toronto!

Glory's Sun 05-03-2007 04:30 AM

Well if you go, enjoy it!

I despise dear liverpool, but the Milans have fallen upon a hatred so deep within my soul that it scares me.

So with that in mind.. ah fuck it.. I don't care who wins.

fatbob 05-03-2007 05:12 AM

good luck in the final highthief, commiserations guccilvr.
hey at least you get to see european football every year, my team dundee united haven't been there for a long time...

last night was very weird, i've really enjoyed watching man u this year and have warmed to them this season lots (i used to hate them much as i hate chelski and the arse now! - guess it's the underdog in me) but they just didn't look up for it. there was no pace or passion, very very odd.

highthief 05-03-2007 05:19 AM

Thanks, bob.

I think Liverpool being in the final also motivated Milan quite a lot. I mean, they are always very good at the San Siro, but with memories of 2005, AC just gained that extra bit of motivation to get to the final.

The airfare isn't really at issue, but match tickets are going for huge dollars. I'll have to decide in the next couple of days.

Otherwise, it'll be Toronto FC on the 16th of May and the FIFA Under-20 Championships in July! Hardly the same thing, but hey, it's on at a fraction of the cost.

A-fucking-men.

I just stopped watching midway through the second half. The defense was terrible, the passing poor at best and they couldn't hang onto the ball for more than 15 secs before giving it up to Milan - in a favourable position!

I swear they handed them the 1st two goals.

My hat's off to Milan. They played an outstanding game of football, out-thinking their opponents (not hard when everytime they get the ball they make a run down the left hand side ala Ronaldo).

So I'm for Milan in the final...mostly because I'd rather lick Beckham's boots before I support them Liverpudlians.

As long as his boots are the only thing you'll be licking I don't have a problem

Glory's Sun 05-07-2007 04:37 AM

well at least I've got some faith back as the Premiership is ours again :D

highthief 05-07-2007 08:49 AM

Fair play to Man U - I thought Chelski might hunt them down but they held firm.

It's funny, at the start of the year, my buddy who is a big United fan, was knocking United's squad - guys like O'Shea, Fletcher and Evra. But really, as good as some of the stars were, it was Utd's squad that won the league, and Chelsea's rather expensive squad that didn't.

Well I was unsure of the squad to start with but as they kept holding and maintaining form.. I grew to respect them.

I just could not bear to watch another Chelski premiership win..

fatbob 05-07-2007 09:29 AM

i tell you what Fletcher has been playing well recently...

JonoAubrey 05-09-2007 11:42 AM

Here's to the 'Pool - we certainly need all the luck we can get.

Milan are a massively dangerous side if you give them space - ManU made the fatal mistake (a la first 45 in Istanbul) of not putting immediate pressure the player in possession.

Having said that, if Maschy/Sissoko can stifle Kaka, Milan don't have as many options as people think. Unfortunately if we do have a chance of winning I don't think it will be short passing on the ground - but I'd rather be 'shit on a stick' Champions than fine art losers!

highthief 05-09-2007 12:07 PM

Well that's it isn't it? If we win pretty or we win ugly, I don't care as long as we win!

It'll be a massive midfield battle. I hope Rafa goes with:

Reina
Finnan - Carra - Agger - Risse
Gerrard - Masch - Alonso - Pennant
Kuyt - Crouch

Subs:

Dudek
Hyppia
Arbeloa
Zenden or Kewell
Sissoko
Bellamy
