Watching Baseball Smarter
A friend of mine has written a very insightful book about baseball that I felt should get some more publicity. Watching Baseball Smarter: A Professional Fan's Guide for Beginners, Semi-experts, and Deeply Serious Geeks by Zack Hample. The book goes over baseball from top to bottom, giving readers knowledge they may or may not already know. For the beginners, the book explains rules, situations and ettitquette. For the experts, the book gives amusing anecdotes and little-known facts along with obscure knowledge about details you never bothered to think about. I myself am an expert fan, and I am enjoying the book. Perhaps what is helping me enjoy it is figuring how I will use the book to teach my friends who don't understand Baseball to appreciate it a little more.
If you want to get it from Amazon, expect a few weeks delay. I had it on order for a couple weeks, but I found the book at Barnes and Noble and decided to buy it right away. Anyways, if you have a passion for baseball, would like to understand the game better, or are bored, try and find this book and put it to good use. |
I read an article about this book the other day and it piqued my interest. I'm probably going to go ahead and pick up a copy.

A link for the lazy:
http://www.amazon.com/Watching-Baseb.../dp/0307280322 If more people understood baseball, they might like it more, and then maybe my Indians could get more income. ;) |
The writer is a friend of yours! I thought about buying the book as a gift for my father in law, but now I may have to order two.
|
Yeah, I saw him on Sunday and he signed my copy. "Go Dodgers! (Just not against the Mets.)"
|
Interesting, I may have to check it out.
Tim Kurckjian's recent book "Is This a Great Game, or What?" is one of the most fascinating baseball anecdote books I've ever read. :) |
For me watching baseball smart is watching hockey, but that book sounds like a good idea.

Sounds like an interesting read. Also sounds like a pen name. C'mon "Zack Hample" ; Thats a real name?
