Buckeyes....
Was just thinking, and wondered how it felt to know that you're "good", but it seems like theres always that one team that reminds you that you're not the best....
Go SEC ;) -Will |
Hey, The Buckeyes finished number 2 in the two major sports. I know a lot (well, all but 1) of colleges would like to say the same. Congratulations to the Florida Gators. They were obviously the best team in the Country.
It is nice to see Florida get into the National Championship game again, they are having a nice run. Can they sustain that over the next few years? Was it a team win or a program win? The next few years will tell. As for the Buckeyes, it was their 10th Final Four, 5th Championship game (dating back to the first one) and their 4th runner up banner (1939, 1961, 1962 and 2007) to go along with the 1960 Championship. (Yes, I know that by heart). That goes along with our 7 football national Championships. While Florida is having an unprecedented run, the Buckeyes will ALWAYS be a player in the Championship picture. Congratulations again to the Gators, the best team in Football and basketball. |
Since you brought football up, can we all just acknowledge that the SEC has been the superior conference over the last 45 or so years? Ohio State and Michigan have won at least shares of national titles in that time, with a total of 3. The SEC has won 12 among 5 schools (Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee) that I can count off the top of my head.
As a Tennessee fan, I rooted for Ohio State last night. But Florida looked great, especially at the end of the 1st half. Damn Gators... |
Sure, I'll give you that. Never meant for this to be a Big10 versus SEC discussion. I was just pointing out that Ohio State has always been there. Hopefully they will be there in the future, and everyone will decide to show up. In football, none of them showed up, and last night, only Oden decided to show up.
But why 45 years? Why not 50? Why not during the Poll era? What was so special about 1961? (Other than the fact it can be read the same upside down.) |
1961 is logical (to me anyway) because it's the beginning of the TV era and the Jet Age, both of which allowed national recruiting on a much larger scale than went on before. It is, admittedly, an arbitrary point.
And to even further threadjack this (sorry), if you ever really want to irritate a Michigan fan, point out that Michigan State has won more national titles in football in the last 50 years than Big Blue. That's always good for a laugh around here since I work with a bunch of Michigan grads. |
well.. Buckeye fans better cherish their 2nd place finish.. I feel they are in some deep shit for the next few years.
Fucking Florida.. oh how I hate that school/program. |
The Jazz, That makes sense. I was wondering about that 1961 date. Thanks for answering. Yea, I like to bring up the Buckeye NC's in football over the past 50 years or so. Drives the UM people nuts. And other than "cleatgate" I root for your Vols. Wife's grandparents are from the Hills of Tennessee, and Grandpa's bro. was being recruited by UT in football before he was killed in car wreck back in the early '40's. And you gotta love "Rocky Top". (Just brought up cleatgate because I have an OSU grad friend married to a Tenn. grad. She constantly brings up the cleats to make him mad. If she reads this, she'll laugh.)
Guccilvr, Why are the Buckeyes in deep shit the next few years? |
byesman: I just don't think they'll get the recruits for a few years. Oden is gone and who knows who else is going from this team. They may be ok next year, but I kind of see them as another Illinois.
|
okay. You do know that we have a 7'2" guy coming in, plus a couple more blue chippers. Matta is known for his recruiting. Although I expect Oden to be gone, I think Conley will stay 1 more at least, and the rest of the Thad 5 staying at least 2 more. We'll see, but I hope you are wrong...
|
Ugh... If only we had the overall number one seed... That probably wouldn't have matter at all anyway. The gators just wanted it more, I think. I just hate Billy Donovan, and now Urban Meyer, and the whole Florida program. Almost to the level I hate M******n.
I've got so much more to add, but I'll refrain for now. |

7'2" whoppdy doo.. big deal. Seriously. That doesn't mean shit unless he can actually move that frame around. I think Conley is gone. Like I said, you might be ok for 1 more year, but I think Matta is going to have some issues after that. I haven't actually looked at the strengths of recruiting classes this year I'm purely going on assumption here. Yeah I hate OSU :p Don't worry I hate Florida more. |
Actually, he CAN move. He can go out and hit the 3, and move inside and use his size and strength underneath. We'll see when he gets there. I don't know about Conley, I think the feeling here is he'll stay.
As for Koufos, here is a youtube video. I really don't like these types of things, because they only show the positives, and not the negatives, but he does have great range, and a pretty shot: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GqKECKeq3TI |
We're all game, no finish.
