I hate Russ Ortiz

I hate Russ Ortiz. He's a fat piece of shit useless pitcher and one of the worst free agent signings ever. He was doing his usual thing, walking guys, getting blown out, acting like he's suprised with the results and the DBacks pulled him from the rotation on April 23. He was actually shocked. The team made up a fake injury and shipped his ass to AAA so that he could work things out in a pressure-free environment. At the time, the team was 8-11. It was like a weight was lifted from the team. They responded by going 26-11 while he was gone.

So Monday they decided he's 'healthy' again. The team can't just hide him there so they need to bring him back. He hadn't done great in Tucson, still walking guys and pitching with a 4-something ERA but because of hte CBA, they can't just keep him there forever. Obviously, they option a rookie who went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA to bring him back. His first start was yesterday, 6/6/6.

So what happens when Russ Ortiz comes back? Just a few minor things, one of our relief pitchers becomes the next thing in the steroids investigation and blows the case with HGH wide open, Juan Cruz, who replaced Fatty, going 3-3 with a respectable 4.41 ERA (and the ERA is inflated by one horrible start where he got one out and gave up 9 runs, so really his ERA was more like the mid 2's) goes on the DL with soreness, Brandon Webb's scoreless innings streak stops, Chad Tracy has to be removed from the game due to injury, and the team's offense goes from super powerfull to shit. Russ sucks of course, he walks 5 and gives up 3 in 5 innings. Of course, Russ didn't suck enough. He was bad enough to say he struggled but not so bad that the management won't have the balls to just hide him in long relief.

Fucking Ken Kendrick and Jeff Moorad. Back in 2004, they were right to fire Colangello but they had no business trying to run the team on their own last season. It goes to show how important a good GM is. I'm so thankfull that Josh Byrnes has come in and started making moves to save the team.

Any DBacks fans out there? If not, what players do you really hate?

Halx 06-07-2006 10:28 AM

And Gagne returns, thus signaling the end of Arizona's lead in the NL West.

*cheer*

Sounds more like he is a cancer on the team or just has seriously bad mojo.

Perhaps, you could ship him here to Cleveland and we'll give you .... oh I don't know.... name one of the overpaid SOB's that the team has now..... Boone, Broussard, Peralta, Byrd, Johnson, Westbrook....... all these guys showed all this great potential and skill and the second Shapiro and Dolan spend a little money on them..... they CHOKE and lay down and play dead.

Now now, don't get too excited yet. We still have a 1.5 game lead on you guys. Gagne may be back but it's June so Drew is probably ready for his annual DL visit. I won't have to suffer Ortiz for too long, he'll screw it all up again and then he'll be banished to the pen once again. You guys still have to deal with Perez.

We have Nippert starting for us today. I'm cautiously optimistic. The kid has amazing stuff but in his short time with the team last season he didn't seem ready yet (and he was just barely a year removed from TJ surgery).

According to Rotoworld, Gagne is experiencing soreness after his save the other day. His velocity on this fastball was between 89-92. Hopefully he's fine. I'm loyal to my team and I want them to do the best they can but I hate it when great players get hurt.

Halx 06-07-2006 01:29 PM

Perez starts tonight. It wont be as bad as you're expecting.

Gagne downplayed the soreness, as if he was expecting it. It's just a matter of getting back into the groove. The bottom line is, he didn't miss a beat, even with his Fastball at 92. He made those 3 Mets batters look like tee-ball players.

kutulu 06-07-2006 01:52 PM

Fuck, Nippert is getting shelled and Madson is killing us. He's only thrown 7 balls through 4 innings. Sick.

kutulu 06-13-2006 03:51 PM

What a happy day, Russ Ortiz was DFA'd by the DBacks!!!

Halx 06-13-2006 03:54 PM

Well, you were right about Perez. However hellooooo #1.

$21.5M kick in the ass. The DBacks are acting like the Yankees in dumping contracts and eating the remainder.

You gotta give kudos to Russ, though. he pitched just good enough in Atlanta to garner $33M from the DBacks. I coulda done a better job for the league minimum.

That didn't last long for you guys, did it?

As far as them dumping him and eating it, either way Ortiz was getting that money. Dumping him and replacing him with a young pitch that makes the league min (and perform better) was the right thing to do. A smart GM needs to know when to just give up on a player and move on, regardless of their contract status (too bad they didn't hire Josh Byrnes BEFORE signing Ortiz...). They could have put him in the pen but what's the point of doing that?

The AL East is trembling:

Quote:

The Orioles likely will show interest in veteran right-hander Russ Ortiz once he becomes a free agent today. The Arizona Diamondbacks released Ortiz last week, because he had been grossly ineffective since signing a four-year deal before last season.

Ortiz posted his only 20-win season under Leo Mazzone's tutelage in Atlanta. His agent, John Boggs, said he expects significant league-wide interest in the pitcher.

"I would like to think there is going to be a lot of interest. We're talking about an established pitcher here," Boggs said. "We're looking for a team that shows confidence in Russ and can give him an opportunity."

Boggs said Ortiz's familiarity with Mazzone can only help the Orioles' cause.

"Leo knows Russ and knows what he is capable of," he said. "In the case of Baltimore, it could be a perfect situation because he knows Leo. You go back to people you believe in. He's just trying to find the best place where he can be the pitcher he knows he is capable of being."

The 32-year-old right-hander signed a $33 million deal with Arizona but was 5-11 with a 6.89 ERA in 2005 and 0-5 with a 7.54 ERA this season. He won just one of his last 19 starts for the Diamondbacks, who still owe Ortiz about $22 million.
That fatass couldn't ecape the NL West without a 7.00 ERA, the AL East will tear him apart.

Kevin Millar, Russ Ortiz, Jeff Conine and Kris Benson. What the hell are the O's thinking? It's not like they don't have the ability to generate money in that market!

djtestudo 06-23-2006 02:19 PM

I won't speak on Conine or Millar (stopgaps), but Benson is 8-5 (should be 9-5 after last night ) with a 4.06 ERA.

That would be better then Beckett and third-best on the Boston staff, better then Wang and Johnson and SECOND-best on the Yankee staff, as well as the Blue Jays staff.

And he's signed through next year with the best pitching coach in baseball history helping him.

And it cost a reliever who has already been traded again and a mid-level starting prospect.

Yeah, what the hell were the Orioles thinking :D

Plus, I heard that the Ortiz rumors hve little to them, so no real worries there.

Come playoff time, you take Benson and I'll take Beckett. The regular season is meaningless; more so for the black birds' fans since the 1990s.

If he's healthy.

By the way, World Championships since 1954:

Baltimore - 3
Boston - 1

By the way, at least the Orioles get rid of bad pitchers, instead of signing them like Boston does

I'm sorry, I don't live in the 20th Century. Here's the total for the 21st century:

Boston - 1
Baltimore - 0
MFYs - 0

And to use your term, Johnson is stopgap. Wells and Clement, on the other hand...

O's sign Ortiz. AL East weeps with joy.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2500126

Well, if anyone can get Ortiz back on track, it's Leo. He should start with a stomach stapling.

cameroncrazy822 07-25-2006 05:47 AM

The guy is useless! Our wonderful front office (Orioles) took a chance on him for a minimal amount of money but it's looking like he's a bust for the 300K they spent to get him. He's as useless as our meddling, ineffectual, megalomaniac, midget owner.... Dick Angelos!

kutulu 07-25-2006 09:13 AM

After the O's picked him up I thought that if anyone could change him it would be Mazzone. Then he started pitching. His last line was fantastic: 0 IP, 6ER!
