Awesome, this is turning into an espically interesting year. As a Sharks fan, I am going out of my mind. If they can manage to make it throught the semifinals, then they will have an excellent chance at getting Sir Stanley Cup.

Quote:

The Stanley Cup, notably the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in North America, was donated in 1892 by Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, Lord Stanley of Preston and son of the Earl of Derby. He purchased the trophy for 10 Guineas ($50.00 at that time) to be presented to "the championship hockey club of the Dominion of Canada." The first team ever awarded the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association in 1893.

Since 1910, when the National Hockey Association took possession of the Stanley Cup, the trophy has been symbolic of professional hockey supremacy. Beginning in 1926, only NHL teams have competed for this prized trophy.

streak_56 05-05-2006 06:00 PM

Long live the lord of the cup.

Willravel 05-05-2006 07:07 PM

One Cup to rule them all, One Cup to find them,
One Cup to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

Ace_O_Spades 05-06-2006 03:24 PM

picks are up, good luck everyone.

Nikilidstrom 05-06-2006 07:21 PM

Ace, not that I shouldn't leave the pick as it is after todays game, but in the spirit of fairness I actually have NJ in 6, not 7 as listed.

Ace_O_Spades 05-06-2006 10:22 PM

thanks for the correction. I made the change.

Willravel 05-08-2006 08:27 AM

Sharks over Oilers 2-1, Sharks one step closer to Stanley Cup....

BigBen 05-08-2006 08:51 AM

Man, if Edmonton plays like that tonight, they should be given the boot. That was almost as bad as the Calgary episode in Game 7.

Hey, if you guys don't want to play any more, can you please make an announcement over the PA system so that the folks watching can leave early, change the channel, et cetera?

Nikilidstrom 05-08-2006 09:43 AM

Not that I think the Red Wings are the end-all and be-all of hockey, but when a team like Edmonton takes down the top team in the league in the playoffs, each game is so emotionally charged that the next series is almost a let down for the first couple games, as far as being able to get hyped up for them. I suspect though the the next game will be a better effort as they realize they can't rest on their lorels. But San Jose is gonna win anyway :)

Ace_O_Spades 05-08-2006 05:42 PM

Round 1 was so awesome, I just can't get excited about any of the matchups in round 2... hopefully the hockey turns around and starts getting exciting again.

Maybe we were spoiled with so many OT games

Nikilidstrom 05-09-2006 09:13 AM

You're right. Win or lose, overtime playoff hockey is by far the best to watch. I'm into the Carolina/Jersey series, especially after game 2. Lots of good hockey played there, up until the last 30 seconds or so when both teams had horrible breakdowns.

Antikarma 05-09-2006 10:19 AM

I have to say, I hate San Jose. Hate. And it's not for any reason other than the fact that they are beating Edmonton cleanly and effectively. When you look at the Ottawa series you can see Ottawa is outplaying Buffallo, not by much but they are. San Jose has taken Edmonton's game of speed and forecheck, and then taken it to another level.

It's sad, I want Edmonton to win. But if San Jose keeps it up, Smyth can go golfing with Iginla in two games.

Quadraton 05-09-2006 11:18 AM

It's official. I have placed a curse on every team I selected to win the second round. Not a single team I picked has won a game yet. Hell, Colorado has yet to score a single freakin' goal!

Is it too late to change my pick in the Ottawa-Buffalo series? I was really hoping this would be the year I got to see a Stanley cup parade where I live :p

It's strange, too, because you did so well last round! Well, I'm glad you might have been wrong about the Sharks. They are really turning into the new team to beat. Strange how things work out. I remember when most people weren't even expcting them to make the playoffs.

silent_jay 05-09-2006 01:02 PM

Let's go Sabres, keep beating the Sens and I will be a very happy guy.

streak_56 05-09-2006 06:26 PM

My wings are out, so I'm starting to cheer for them next year.... WOO!... Stevie Y not retiring... YAY!

goddfather40 05-09-2006 08:19 PM

Those darn Ducks. Joffery Lupul, unbelieveable. Hat-trick + 1. When was the last four goal game in the playoffs? I don't remember the last time.

With Jiggy II: Electric Bryzkalov becoming THE prototypical hot playoff goaltender, look out. This team looks strong.

I was beginning to wonder if I was the one who placed the curse. Glad to hear it's was you and not me :) . At least Carolina is doing well. They are the team I want to win it all but I picked against them because I didn't think they had it in them the get past Brodeur and the Devils.

Ace_O_Spades 05-10-2006 07:34 PM

Wow, if San Jose wins tonight (ahead 2-1) then all four series will be 3 games to 0

I was just thinking that! I'm starting to think that my pecimism got the better of me. I should have put SJ down for a win in 4 or 5 games instead of 6. I'm so ashamed. What kind of Sharks fan am I?

*watches game intently*

Willravel 05-10-2006 08:42 PM

16th OT in the playoffs....jeez!

I hear ya. I'm ready for next season! :) And Stevie hasn't made any decision yet, has he? If so, I haven't heard a thing. Just that he's planning on making a decision soon. Man, I don't want him to go yet, either!

BigBen 05-11-2006 12:28 PM

Christ I am tired today. I wonder what the reason is.

Am I working too hard? Nope.
Is there something wrong with my diet? I don't think so...
Am I not getting enough sleep?

3 OT BABY! 3 OT!

Ace_O_Spades 05-12-2006 09:17 PM

Series sweep for the Ducks! Sweet!

And Edmonton ties the series! SWEET!

Willravel 05-12-2006 11:42 PM

Well maybe Sharks in 6 games wasn't such a bad call after all. The Sharks are TITANS at home. Look for me in Club 102, row 3 in games 5 and 6. BTW, kudos for an excelent game played by Edmonton. The Oilers are an exceptional team, and are a great match for the Sharks. These next few games should be very exciting.

docbungle 05-13-2006 12:01 AM

Edmonton's looking good. But damn, the sharks are looking amazing.

silent_jay 05-13-2006 09:26 AM

Come on Sabres, one more big win to put the nail in the coffin of the Sens.

silent_jay 05-14-2006 08:32 AM

Bye bye Sens, another high seed bites the dust.

Willravel 05-14-2006 08:54 PM

warning, don't highlight this if you value politeness:Spoiler: GOD DAMN MOTHER FUCKING SON OF A BITCH EATING SHIT OUT OF A FUCKING TOILET!!!!!I CAN'T FUCKING BELEIVE IT!!!

The Sharks lost again. I'm speachless. What's happening? Games 1 and 2 looked amazing. I know the Oilers are good and all, but I figured that the Sharks had something going on at home. Damn.

Antikarma 05-15-2006 12:09 AM

Tonight looked like a complete emotional breakdown for the Sharks. I only passively watched the game so I dunno what the Oilers are doing, but its working. I'm rooting for the Oilers but let's be honest, they were embarressed in game 1 and 2. Schooled.

San Jose is losing its composure and unless changes are made, they will lose in Edmonton.

bookerV 05-15-2006 08:33 AM

Wow I am really impressed with the Oil. They are pouring it on. I really hope they take the cup now that my beloved Sens have gotten the boot. Fucking Sabres!! I was REALLY looking forward to the massive party that would have erupted here if we would have won... Oh well. At least I got to go to the last home playoff win that they had...

streak_56 05-16-2006 04:42 PM

I have been wrong in every series.... this sucks royally

Antikarma 05-17-2006 04:13 PM

Way to go Edmonton, hold your head high. That was a Yankee national anthem cheered all the way through. You had the chance to sink to the level of SOME OF THE SAN JOSE fans (lets be honest, that was a small few that ruined it for all) and you acted with pure class.

Thats classy, folks

Coppertop 05-18-2006 06:57 AM

Hey Antikarma, FYI, Edmontonians booed the US anthem, in game 3 or 4. Then some scrubs here in SJ booed O Canada in game 5. Either way, anyone doing it is classless.

Good job Oilers, that was a hard fought series.

Willravel 05-18-2006 08:29 AM

Congratulations to the Oilers. You guys earned it. We'll be seeing you next season.

silent_jay 05-24-2006 07:45 AM

Fucking Oilers still playing great hockey, keep playing hard boys, we need the Cup back in Canada
