I'll take the Kings. Oh wait, shit.

Well, who is going to have the hot goaltender? Marty Brodeur can keep the Devils hot (10 game winning streak) so I like New Jersey. I also like Kiprusoff and Calgary in the West with Calgary winning the cup. But then again, I haven't paid too much attention since before the Olympic break so I'm probably way off.

Lets Go Rangers!

Its about freaking time. I don't think I can wait until 2048.

Temporary_User 04-19-2006 07:02 AM

Go Flames GO!!!!

God of Thunder 04-19-2006 09:49 AM

Since I'm a Wings fan, I'll go with them.

I think it will end up with Detroit vs Ottawa with the Wings winning.

The interesting part of that will be seeing the Redwings face Dominik Hasek. But, I think Manny is better.

With talent like Lidstrom, Chelios, Datsyuk, Zetterburg, Legace and of course Yzerman, they stand a pretty good shot.

The_Jazz 04-19-2006 10:27 AM

Blackhawks! Oh wait, the Wirtz's still own them. Nevermind....

Ace_O_Spades 04-19-2006 11:39 AM

hmm, this isn't exactly how I was looking for this thread to turn out

Added to original post... this could be a fun little contest.

Detroit vs Edmonton==> Detroit (6)
Dallas vs Colorado==> Dallas (7)
Calgary vs. Anaheim==> Calgary (6)
Nashville vs San Jose==> San Jose (6)

edit: What the hell. I'll add number of games too.
edit, edit: Got into a discussion on another forum about Detroit. Have decided they're not "all that" as I previously thought.

Tampa is all skill, little work ethic, which is exactly the kind of team Ottawa likes playing against. Top that off with trouble in the net, and Tampa doesn't have a prayer. Unless the Lightning start playing the aggressive box on the PK, or beating the Sens to pucks, they won't stand much of a chance.

Carolina will (sadly) own the Canadiens, if only because they've done so the whole season. Huet is good, but the Hurricanes can do things that make good goaltenders look below average.

NY defence? Oh, you mean those pylons the Devils will be skating around? Enough said.

Forsberg's groin will go South, and the Flyers will be unable to adapt to Buffalo's speed. For a team that was supposed to be "The Chosen Ones", they've had a pretty mediocre season when Forsberg was out of the lineup.

Detroit is a good team, but their season leading 124 points is perhaps a little inflated due to the soft division they got to play in. Edmonton has always managed to be a thorn in the sides of better teams (ask Dallas about that), so I think they'll give more of a fight than I previously thought. Still, Detroit is a good team, so they'll at least take the first round.

Dallas will win, but only because Theodore really isn't as good a goaltender as everyone says he is.

Calgary is a very hard team to score on, as pointed out by the fact they had the lowest GAA in the league. Anaheim has some goal scorers, but Calgary never really cared about that sort of thing in the past. As long as they continue their work ethic under Darryl Sutter, they'll be the team to beat this year.

When you have two of the league's top point getters in Cheechoo and Thornton, you're bound to get a few pucks in the net. Add to the fact that Vokoun is no longer playing in net, and Nashville can only hope for a miracle.

(BTW, I very much hope I'm wrong in some of these, namely the Canadiens and the Oilers, but we'll see).

Ottawa will offensively dominate the post season and will not get a challenge until they meet New Jersey. Carolina will pick apart the Montreal offense and defense. New Jerseys defense will overpower the New York offense which will be capped only with a Jagr hat trick when the play at Madison Square Gardens. Buffalos speed will demolish Philly, the only hope for Philly is if they break down Buffalo by making it a physical series.

Detroit will absolutely kill Edmonton who has no offense and no goaltending. The Colorado/Dallas series will be the most exciting both are really evenly strength for me except for Colorados absent goaltending. Theodore needs to step it up in order for Colorado to have a chance. Calgary will dominated physical as they warm up for the post season. San Jose will offensively dominate because of an absence of Vokoun.

It's how many games it takes to win the series, mate. Remember, it's best of seven. So saying "Detroit in 6" means you think that Edmonton will win 2 games, but Detroit will win the 4 and the series.

So who thinks it's going to be Redwings over Sharks for the cup?
says the optimistic Sharks fan...

Antikarma 04-20-2006 07:53 PM

The Sharks are a good team, dont get me wrong, but theres the slight problem of the Red Wings and the Sharks being in the same conference, so uh.... barring unforeseen circumstances I don't think that will be the case. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW.

Who thinks Canucks over the Senators.... oh shite, wait....

I know, but it'd be so cool to see the Sharks take on (arguabally) the best hockey team for the cup.

Antikarma 04-20-2006 08:55 PM

I suppose thats absolutely possible in the semis, and I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post. I thought you meant for the finals.

The Sharks, I dunno what to think of them to be honest. Either they are are the luckiest team in the league, will bow out in the second round, and go back to mediocrity next year; or they have the best leadership in the league, and are a scary ass dynasty. They have no superstars in the pipeline but they seem to have a scouting system built for blue collar, hard working role players. Add to that they seem to have 3 good goalies in the works, PLUS who they have on the ice now, and I admit, I'm nervous.

I don't think they'll take the cup this year, but as a Canucks fan, I really REALLY hope that this year is a fluke for them. If this is just the start of a greater trend, I'm nervous.

We need more teams in the West so that Detroit can be an Eastern Confrence team.

I agree that the Sharks are an oddity in a way, but I surely can't complain. It wasn't long ago when most of us Sharks fans have given up hope. Suddenly they start winning; a lot. I almost felt badly for the Stars. Realistically, they won't make it to the cup, but considering the way they've beeen playing lately, I can't discout it completly. I know they'll beat Nashville, and they have a fair chance of beating the Flames. I don't know about the Red Wings...they've already made their pact with the devil.

It's exciting to see how a hockey team from a town with no snow do so well. It reminds me of when the Sharks first arrived on the scene.

For the Canucks...you guys have an amazing team, and I suspect the real fluke was them not being in the top 8.

Coppertop 04-20-2006 11:07 PM

Most of us gave up hope? The Sharks have a long history of selling out games even in some of their worst seasons. The real fans have always been here. Pay no attention to the bandwagoners.
