NHL suspensions
This has to be the worst professional sports league in the world.. Yeah yeah hockey is physical and all that, but when a guy (say brooks orpiks for example) runs a franchise player into the boards from behind and compresses the franchise player's vertbre only gets a 3 game suspension has be in disbelief. Yet, when a guy rips off another guys helmet after the guy he checks wants to fight and whops him on the head with it gets a 2 game suspension has me confused.. Are you telling me that bopping a guy on the head with a helmet (which is far less dangerous than hitting someone in the head with a stick) gets a 2 game penalty and a guy that almost breaks another guy's neck only get s a3 game suspension .. i don't get it sorry.) I don't know if you guys share the same feelings about this as me..

Intent goes a long way...
While it certainly was a dangerous play that ran the player into the boards, there is no overt intent to injure. When you look at what happened with the helmet...well....that's absolutely inexcusable. I thought that Todd Bertuzzi's incident shows exactly how the NHL handles these things. If *I* were the commissioner, Bertuzzi would be out for EXACTLY as long as Moore was. If Moore was done with hockey, so should Bertuzzi have been. So yeah...the NHL is kinda pansy on these suspensions.

I agree 100% with ScottKuma. I saw the hit on Cole live, and about a hundred times since, and their was absolutely no intent whatsoever. Cole put himself in a bad position, and Orpik finished his check, even though he should have backed off.
In the Bertuzzi case, he intended to hit Moore from behind, did so, and should be removed from the sport permenantly. As far as the helmet incident, I didn't see that one, but if whoever it was intentionally ripped off his helmet and hit him with it because he wouldn't fight, he should be finished for the season at least. At the very least that could have severly cut his face/head, and at worst could have caused a concussion of even killed him depending on where it struck him. |

That's how I saw it as well, Cole put himself in a bad spot, you never go towards the boards with your head down, especially whne you know someone is coming behind you to hammer you. It kind of looked like it was from the side and the kid just finished his check, too bad Cole had to be injured, hate to see any player get put out for the year.
The helmet incident was comical, I have never seen so many people getting cracked in the skull with a helmet, as I have this year. It seemed like the guy did it intentionally, he knew what he was doing, I'd put the bastard on the sidelines for the rest of the year if I were the Commish.

Yeah, I agree with all except original poster.
Cole was heading for a certain position along the board when right at the last minute, he shifted to the left which put himself in a bad position that ended up getting himself hurt
