Unexpected and not all that welcome side effect of working out

I've always had a high sex drive, somewhat higher than I think the average 35 year old male would have based on my observations. That may at times annoy my wife but it isn't that big of a deal.

Now that I have been working out for about 2 months (for the first time in about 14 years) my sex drive is through the roof. Its down right annoying really as my wife is still at about 70% normal drive due to having a baby not long ago and I am at about 240%.

So since there is not much TFP can do to help the first problem (fapping is NOT the answer), I'm just wondering if anyone else experianced a huge increase in sex drive with working out.

Ok it's been decades since I've sat thru a biology class.. but doc, :) were you out the day they taught....
working out = increase of endorphins
working out = increase of testosterone, especially for the first hour after working out...

testosterone is the only real aphrodisiac - what you are going thru is normal...

Alcohol is a depressant - have some drinks post workout? :D

uhm... work out your... forearms more often?

tehhappyboy 07-28-2005 03:03 PM

actually working out helps me lose the edge so long as i'm not staring into the bathing suit of that cute redhead, then it makes me work more. But I seem to be backwards with everything biological, i.e. caffene makes me sleepy, staying up later lets me wake up earlier short term, etc.

When I work out my sex drive is through the ROOF. And I already have a rather high drive for lovin'.

Yeah, working out makes you feel better about yourself and your body, which naturally leads to wanting more sex. Perhaps you could convince your wife to get back to exercising? I don't remember how old your baby is, but perhaps you could watch the kid for an hour a few nights a week while she uses an exercise tape?

When I am working out... I too experience a raise in my sex drive. Thankfully my wife finds me sexier when I am working out and usually raises to occasion.

working out also increases your testosterone immensely. :-)

Great, like the stuff doesn't already ooze out of my pores.

Just find a way to become even more active. Play video games. Take up a full contact sport. Get drunk with your friends

You have pent up energy, and a great way to deal with it is to tire yourself out so you won't want to do anything at all.

I've experienced an increase, but I have the sex drive of an 80 year old on valium so it's not like it hurts me.

I know what you mean. I started working out about 3 years ago, I get the same feeling. I'm 24 and already have a high sex drive. After I work out, I feel like getting naked, running through the woods, chasing a big buck, jumping on it, killing it with my bare hands, eating it raw, like a lion would, than going back to my cave and having animalistic sex with my cave woman. Well, maybe its just me with the whole "killing a buck and eating it raw and living in a cave." Its gotta be the spike of testorone. When you work out and lift weights the levels increase, also other hormones, like insulin, are intensified.

Good news: I have some pectoral muscle definition again.

Bad news: Wife is very very sore.

lol ^ :)

curious, does this testosterone increase happen in females as well?
(I know I could google, but ...)

and is this 'working out' more strength training? in relation, how much does cardio have an effect?

(just curious, as a female, who's been doing almost daily cardio for 2+ months ...)

I've no problem with a bit of a testo incr, really. wouldn't mind.
rawr.

I actually did some googling on it because biology was so long ago - and yup, females do get that testosterone buzz - from what I read -- it's lasts for about 2 -3 hours after working out.... :)

tman17m 08-01-2005 04:28 PM

oh yea, its bad for me when i work out. i power lift 3 times a week and run 3 other days a week (one day a week off). anyways, its not so bad when i go running, but after i come home from a really intense lifting workout my sex drive is redicilous. its so high that some days it has to be delt with...immediately...

I'm under the impression that, while other types of exercise may increase testosterone output, muscle building exercise has by far the greatest effect. I imagine it has a similar effect on women. My guess (purely supposition) is that, since the body is trying to repair muscle, it boosts the testosterone output as testosterone is conducive to greater muscle repairing (and therefore building) ability. Sort of a cyclical effect if you will; start working out, body releases more testosterone to compensate, more muscle is built, and so on.
