Dildo vs. Vibrator - what's the difference from her perspective?
Maybe it's an odd question, but this seems like a good place to ask. My gf is familiar and enjoys her vibrator collection. And, you know, if she enjoys it I enjoy it ;) I'm thinking about buying her a new toy. She's never owned or used a dildo before, so that's what I was thinking about getting.
But that raised a stray question in my head. What's the difference? I mean, I'm a fairly normal guy, so from my perspective anything powered by electricity and with more features is obviously superior something that isn't. Is that necessarily the case, though? So ladies, what's your angle on this particular controversy? What are some of the differences that you notice? I know I'll find out later from my girlfriend, but I was interested in some additional opinions. |
we just discussed this in IRC -
According to the sex toy quiz at www.mypleasure.com.. one of their questions was: 4. What's the difference between a vibrator and a dildo? A.) Dildos are phallic shaped, and vibrators are not B.) A vibrator is a sex toy that vibrates, and a dildo does not C.) Dildos are made from silicone or other softer materials D.) There is no difference: "vibrator" is another name for a dildo Spoiler: The correct answer is B Dildos are made in a multitude of shapes and from a variety of different materials. The main difference between a dildo and vibrator is the "buzz" -- vibrators vibrate and dildos do not. |
Yeah, good part about a vibrator is that it can be used for the clit too, not just for internal pleasure.

a dildo is like a penis but without the man attached, they come in a variety of sizes and shapes and are mainly for having something in the vagina/anus while masturbating, or if the feeling of DP is desired without the extra person. they're also good for strap on sex, or any other time when you wish you had a penis around but don't. so if you've already had a good orgasm, but she's wanting more, you could pleasure her with a dildo. i have a really nice dildo with a vibrator inside (that can come out) so i have the best of three worlds- vibrator, dildo (sleeve plus vibrator without turning it on) and vibrator. it's quite nice :)
These are dildos: http://www.stockroom.com/dildos.htm These are vibrators: http://www.stockroom.com/vibrators.htm like it has been said, really no difference ceptin one comes with electricity and one doesn't! I say, get a silicone dildo if you're looking into one, silicone is very nice, feels good, holds lube well, is non-pourous so it can be sterilized easily (put it in the dishwasher, top rack), can be heated in hot water or cooled in the fridge, and causes no allergic reatctions like vinyl or plastic can. only drawback with a silicone dildo is that you can't use it with silicone based lubes because the lube will eat away at the silicone of the dildo. Love you dilldo and it will love you back! |
i have both and use both, variety is the spice of life!
i really like some of the new realistic materials they're using with dildos (have yet to find a realistic skin vibe i love). if you go to an actual store (versus ordering online) a lot of the "like skin" ones have samples on the packaging that you can touch to feel what they're like. just make sure you get one with a nice solid center, otherwise they're too bendy imo. silicone is also nice, but a lot of women really like metal and glass too. just really depends on her preference. as to what is better, vibe or dildo...depends on the girl and often on her mood. sometimes all the bells and whistles of a good vibe are tons of fun, sometimes it's more work than i wanna bother with. or if i'm feeling sensitive for whatever reason, i generally go for a dildo over a vibe. |
well. I don't know the first thing about Dildos, But when my wife wanted a play toy, and since they are illegal in Texas. We turned to massagers and my cousin told us about this little number.
http://www.conair.com/content/public...35899HM11M.jpg The Conair Touch 'N Tone massager. You can buy it at just about any drug store. And until we found a way around the law. My wife swore buy it. so I guess there is a fine line between the two. |
There are plenty of places in Dallas that sell vibrators and dildos. New Fine Arts , Condoms to Go, and Condom Sense all have a fairly large selection. I think the difference is, they have to be sold as "novelty items" or "cake toppers" or something silly...
Kinda like the head shops that sell bongs and pipes "for tobacco use only." ;) |
Illegal? What a cold cruel world Texas is!
|
Wow, I didn't know these days that sex toys would be outlawed anywhere. Me and my wife don't have any dildos, but we have a few vibrators which help to enhance the sex greatly. Never have tried a dildo with her but we probably will sometime in the future if she is up to it.

Well yeah, we know that now. We didn't back then. But we did find that the best to buy them is at the New Fine Arts on Mockingbird Ln. great selection. |
We're very spoiled in Seattle. Toys in Babeland an excellent shop, and is just a few blocks away from our apartment.

Icer - toys are not illegal in Texas, just illegal to sell in some counties. Midland does not allow them to be sold unless they are labeled as massagers, but a short drive over to Odessa and you can get whatever you want. Also a good place is Merkel just off of I-20, always have to stop and checkout that place on the way to Dallas.
